You know what? I don't think you should be laughing. A guy thinks all I need is a kayak and a paddle and the next thing he knows he needs $30 ram mounts and $200 fishfinders...oh now I need a storage crate. Now I need a dry suit cuz my bum got wet.... keep laughing

Yeah Shawn you definitely have a point there but I just got a eagle cuda off eBay for 90 bucks then I bought the navonics for my iPhone so now i have a decent elextronic system for 100 and Ill that's left is the crate but old milk crates don't run that much and for added storage I have the whole hull...

How much was the navionics for iPhone? Have you used it? You're the first person I've heard that has that. You need to do a review when you get to check it out

Just looked at the navionics for my driod its only 10 bucks. The screen shots make it seen legit.

I haven't used it on the water but I have been playing around with its amazing its the same 100 dollar chip from bps it's the u.s marine and lake it has pretty much all the ponds we fish it may not have a select few but it's worth it you can make way points create routes look at your track that you have maid it shows you got spots on some body's of water if you have a droid or iPhone it's defiantly worth getting I've been just studying contour lines on ponds and getting to use to the crontrols it's defiantly going to be a great help to me this year

Posted Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:24 pm

Haha looks like I need to invest in a water proof case !

I have iPhone. I'm gonna get it. I suggest aquapac. I have taken my phone in the pool with it. On rainy days I just leave it out in the open. It's 100% waterproof and I'm pretty sure has a phone replacement guarantee. You can use your phone normally through it. I don't go near the water without it

I have Navionics on my iPhone and iPad. Both are worth every cent I spent on the apps.

For those looking at buying used boats, here is something to consider. Unfortunately, I didn't learn this till after the purchase. I bought my boat from a guy in NH. In order to register it, you need proof of sales tax. Obviously, I based it on what I paid for the boat motor and trailer. Wrong. The tax is based upon the price of the boat not the boat motor and trailer. If I ever do this again, I will have the seller print up 3 separate bills of sale.

Charlie

You don't need three seperate Bill of sales (unless your trying to hide something)

Just brake down the purchase on one, trailer cost, boat coast and motor.

Like people have stated, set aside 1k every year just for boat expenses. Very Happy

This thread is great for us Kayakers too, well sorta now I just heard of $40 worth of new gear that I "need".

It's also interesting to hear about the various additional costs for owning a boat. As Shawn said, it's almost as bad for us Kayakers. I have a long list of gear that I want for this season.

Eventually I want to get a boat though because I think it's going to be hard fishing with my 2 kids in the kayak Smile

You realize that it doesn't matter right? You need proof of sales tax to register the trailer too. So you can pay it all at once, or separate, but you still are paying the same.

The bill of sale needs to be itemized

Boat hull Id # then price
Engine serial # then price
Trailer serial # then price

That's what he means

You pay the sales tax for the trailer at the DMV and you pay sales tax on a boat somewhere else. I do it online
