I'm not dissing jon boat mods at all...I actaully think when done correctly they can be an awesome means to fish. For me, I chose to keep it simple. Instead of spending a couple grand on upgrading my 14 foot jon boat, I spent 50 bucks and build a removable deck, and a few hundred dollars on a used 3.5 HP motor that only weighs 38lbs and has a built in gas tank. I took the $2400 I could have spend on a boat and bought a used chevy truck that has been mint for me the last year as a second vehicle (insurance is only 300 bucks a year). Helps out with yard duties and my boat is light enough for me to load and unload on my own when I take it out fishing. I personally didn't want to deal with the trailer and other things that go with it. Keep it simple and easy is my philosophy. But......hopefully in the next year I'll get a big boy boat...my wife may control the purchase as a speed boat is what she wants for lounging and water sports.....we'll see!

I wish I could do the decks myself but I don't have those skills. After doing the roof top muscling the boat all around last year I didn't want to do that again this year especially after fishing off of Kev's boat so much last year. I tried to talk my wife into a bass boat but couldn't get her on board (see how I did that?)

Clean off the front deck put down a few towels, and your girl can lounge. Haha

I told my wife she's gonna love the back deck

the roof top is way over-rated. especially when you lean a boat up against a tree in a big apartment complex parking lot. that and all of the hassle of loading the boat and all the gear up.

Shawn- you're rig is going to be mint on the water! What a difference it makes to be able to sit comfortably or stand comfortably on a rig! You crushed it last year fishing...this year we may need to handicap you in your new boat...Shawn starts -3lbs!

LOL -3??? Damn son I'm no KVD...maybe a minus 1.5

Shawn.. i am chuckling reading the post. This was the exact reason i looked for a boat i could slide on/off my truck bed. (thanks to folks like Rich, Karl and Roger that help). I realized the trailer was the real expense; hitch, registration and maintenance of the trailer.

Having said that... I have my wife agreeing to let me buy a "real" boat, probably something like Halo uses an aluminum basstracker or G3.

Like Kevin said. Once I catch the first fish all this goes away. Last year I considered trailering and went with the roof but after standing on Kevin's deck there's really no better way to fish

love when the local guys buy better boats. win win

Doug, tell your wife that Kman approves of the purchase.

I consistently come across residents of the State of Mass who complain about all these fees (taxes) and taxes they incur on a daily basis. Friends, family members, clients, co-workers, web-site friends, etc...

Then why in the hell do asswipes like our Governor and Granny Warren continuously get voted in? If I didn't have to support so many other families, I would be livin' large in a Ranger.

GET OUT AND VOTE NEXT TIME. And if you do....bring a friend to the polls!!!
