So . . . to recap:

-Senkos are awful baits.

-They have a gut hook ratio of like 10,000 to 1 compared to the other senko-like stick baits.

-They will fall apart in your hand before a fish ever even sniffs the thing.

-They cost $6 a pack, which is insanity since you can get some berkeley power worms that are slathered in that dumpster smell fish love for $5.50.

-You'll never ever catch anything over 2-3lbs with one, and yet they will still somehow also turn you into a rockstar because you'll be pulling fish in left and right with absolutely zero effort on your part.

Got it. All of this completely contradicts my experiences with them over the last 3-4 years, but I guess I must be wrong. Vaguely reminds me of varsity baseball and how my coach hated my split-finger (even though I could locate it better than everything else and throw it harder than my four-seam) because he didn't think it was a versatile enough pitch. Wanted me to learn a cutter instead. I did, and got lit the eff up with it, hahah.

Nope. I haven't played ball in 15 years, just trying to use the analogy to point out how completely subjective it all is and arguing over absolutes like this is basically the same thing as having a pissing contest. I get the frustration at easy-to-use and effective lures, it's gotta be awful to have thousands of dollars worth of gear and boats and see teenagers pulling in nice ones from the shore on cheapy spinning combos.

I dont think anyone is arguing. This is an internet Fishing message board. Topics get discussed. Thats all this is, with a little friendly ball busting in between.
As far as frustration goes, far from it. I use senkos. They represent about 10% of my fishing maybe. However I stand by my initial premise. You learn nothing using them and thats ok too. If you are a casual fisherman and just want to catch fish as easily as possible, you will have struck gold with a senko.

I dig the senko. I don't just cast and let it sit there, though. I'll let it sink, but I watch the line, wait for that tick, etc. And if it doesn't happen on the fall, I move it, twitch it like a fluke, whatever. I'm way too impatient to just let it sit there.

Don't think I've gut-hooked a fish since I was a kid. My father, on the other hand, has a number of times in recent years, and for the very reasons many here have mentioned. He casts it out, sets the pole down, lights a cigarette, checks his phone... I yell at him every fucking time, but he keeps doing it. Really annoying.

OK I have read this entire thread. So many good points about what to use. I have 3 rods with me when I go out. One has a spinner on it, one has a crank bait on it and the last has a senko or some type of stick bait. Truthfully I use the Senko more than the other two. Its not that I don't try the other two, but when it gets slow the senko seems to always come through. I'm not trying to be a professional angler .I just want to enjoy being outside fishing. As far as it being boring fishing with a senko .I use a constant retrieve(always moving or twitching it) when I fish with it. It does 2 things. Keeps me from getting bored and when its on the move you almost never gut hook a fish. Letting it soak will up your chances of gut hooking a fish. I do like to try new things, but if it isn't working in the first 30 min to an hour I'm switching up. Best point I did see was about how people throw their old senkos in the water. I saw a picture in the Maine abstract of a pile of senko type baits that were takin out of a laker's stomach. Must have been 20 + of them. Please take the time to throw them out when your done for the day. That is definitely a problem.
