popcorn comment was that I am going to continue to read these posts, I throw whatever is working, cranks, jigs, spinnerbaits and worms. You just have to find the pattern what is working thats why they call it fishing not catching.

+1

there is a time and a place for everything the conditions and the fish tell me what I am throwing.

The hatred for the senko definitely seems to be more in the East Coast than in other parts of the country. I think they are just more popular around here because we have a lot of shallow grass filled lakes where a stick bait is a good choice. And you cant go into a tackle store and not see a gazillion of them.

I m sure if we all lived in Texas we would be having the same discussion but about A-Rigs. The senko is just another tool in the toolbox.

Senkos will get you in the money more times than not....jigs will get you first place!

100% agree with this statement!

It's not how its rigged, it's where its thrown. Target cover and structure that BIG bass use. Big bass are not usually in open water most of the time.

I think people were missing the point for the most part. Yes senkos work, but so do the knockoffs and other types of soft plastic worms.

It's really more about the presentation and conditions more than anything else. If you're not looking to learn and get better and just want to catch fish, then whatever, but it's when people say the "Senko" itself king and nothing else will catch them.

You most likely would've caught those same fish using a knock off or another worm like a trick worm. Or even something different like a weightless creature bait.

Also what about the other factors and not just the bait? How about conditions? Like warm overcast days where you can target bigger fish with bigger and more aggressive lures? It might be the slow fall and the lure being in the strike zone longer. Or the lighter line. Or the bait sitting on top of the bottom instead of being buried. And so forth. It's not just the bait itself.

Definitely a time and place for everything. I would've killed to have a spinning rod and a "Senko" yesterday. Yeah, I said it. But the conditions were the reason why. The fish weren't buried on the bottom and anything with a weight got buried on the bottom in black disgusting dead sediment due to weed kill chemicals. I would have caught a lot more fish with a weightless plastic that stayed higher in the water column and strike longer instead of blasting into the toxic waste.

It's also possible that the smaller ones were getting to the senko before the big ones. Some guy was slinging a senko from shore yesterday in the same area we were fishing. He caught a solid 2 pounder. We caught a 4.5 and a 3.5 not throwing them.

Like I said before, I am a Senko fan, and that's partly due to the water/lake conditions I normally fish. They're all typically very shallow with a wretchedly horrid muck bottom, or they are so weed choked that anything with a treble hook or moving parts is going to get snagged.

I do love me some chatterbait action though, I'll tell yah h'what.

Stratos is right. Sigh I hate saying that. Tougher to figure out structure on bottom takes a little more effort from shore but can be done through feel. You can catch big fish with senkos or knock offs. Like every lure has to be thrown were the big ones r. Perfect example they were workin on a dam at my fav res 2 yrs back. Water was super low could see all structure on bottom that previously was covered. I noticed 2 islands that had been submerged. Parked myself off shore from islands and cast between them. Had a field day catching 4s n 5s.

I think this is a great topic for a discussion about fishing. The fact that a senco will catch fish. But so don't the knock offs like Sam said
maybe not as easily but they do work.

Like I said in an earlier post I am a jig,jig guy spinner, crank bait top water and I love to drag a craw pegged threw the grass and weeds.

You read about guys winning tourneys throwing a senco but
not around here I mean in New England. We call dinks are the 1lber barely 12 inches down south and out west there dinks are 2.5 and 3lbers. Those are big fish to us Laughing Laughing

Bottom line fish with what you are comfortable with and learn some different techniques. Last but not least ENJOY YOURSELF out there tourney or just fun fishing. Feel free to comment

It's not the bait or the hook it's the angler. Learn to watch your line and use a small Octupus hook and you will not gut hook fish. One reason some anglers don't like Senko type baits is they think their to good to throw them. When the bite is tuff they do catch fish. I myself barley throw them but if that's what you like to throw have at it . Also the O Ring set up keeps a lot of those baits out of the water too.
