As someone that has been looking for a boat, new or used, it has been painful. The used junk out there is just that, junk. I'm planning on my kids being with me on the water and some of the junk on Craigslist has been barely worthy to be put in a swimming pool safely.
Looking for new boats is an adventure all it's own. Dealers are right up there with car dealers and CONgress for slime. I went to a fish & game show a while ago in NH, saw a boat even the misses liked, asked what the cash price was, the "salesperson" stated it was the same, stating further they make their money on financing. Great. Last I checked the economy wasn't exactly stellar, but it must be for boat dealers. Who doesn't take cash these days to trim the 10%-20% markup?
As I looked around, all the dealers were the same, cash price was the same, no "deals". It may be a long journey to Spring for those of us in the market for a boat. I may end up going without just in principle, as this is more of a "want" than a "need" for my family. Reading the above posts, I'm sure as MA decides where to find new revenue, I'm thinking more taxes coming on items we use/need, cars/recreational items.
The quest to find a boat has been very frustrating needless to say, and the customer service for manufacturers has sucked. Some don't even respond to inquires, or just direct to scumbag dealers you don't want to go to in the first place.
