One of the little ponds behind my apartment is about 25% thawed, it was just enough to try my new (and first) baitcaster out. It went terrific, even though I didn't catch any fish or even get any bites, I had a blast learning to baitcast Go Fish

Funny thing was, another pond a few hundred feet away was still frozen solid with people skating on it.

charles river brighton up to the watertown square dam was pretty open. it looks like the entire stretch down river was too with some pockets of ice along the side. water was very very low though.

most of the south shore should open up this weekend. starting to see water around the edges in most places. with the rain this weekend it should help a ton.

Charles River in Watertown is now open above the dam -- also some open water for shore fishing at Charlesbank in Waltham. I was out there today.

Open water is here!! Went down to horn pond yesterday, to check out the ice & throw a couple of casts. Its was about 60% thawed.
There where about 6 guys including myself at the one iced out spot from shore. It was kinda funny, watching a bunch of fisherman with cabin fever huddled around an opening in the ice! LOL!

Today before work I went down to upper mystic to check that out.
Its 95% thawed out. But here's the bad news. The boat ramp is closed for construction. Hope this does interfere with the tourney in June?

I'm hoping to try Horn Pond on Sunday or Monday. If the ramp is thawed out. Laughing
