Id love to ice fish but don't have the gear to do so but the place I spoke of in bedford got some huge bass and 4lb plus pickrell and is on 6 ft deep at its deepest so if all else false try to google map fawn pond or lake and try it out.

ah.. google maps calls it "Fawn Lake". Near the Billerica side. looks cool. I will have to check it out one day. Thanks!

So my favorite spot I'm sure will come as a shocker but I have to go with Lake Maspenock in Hopkinton MA. It has produced many 4-6 pound large mouths during the two years I've lived on the lake. There are nice smallies and plenty of pickerel as well. My favorite time fishing is at night using the jitterbug or big swimbaits. There are plenty of submerged rocks and weeds all over the lake and trees on the shore line. A few nice coves to fish as well with some pads to throw at in the morning or when the main lake is windy.

Lake Winthrop in Holliston is also a favorite that comes to mind. Plenty of lili pads and some deep drop offs near the main island. No motor boats allowed so boat traffic is limited to canoes, kayaks and car toppers which makes it quiet and peaceful to angle. There are some Big fish in that lake!

I'm definately going to start venturing out a bit and think this thread is a great way to get some ideas out there. I'm buying a house about 300 feet from Lake Boon in Hudson so I'm looking forward to having some new waters to explore.

Jeff, you're going to be about three miles from my house. There goes the neighborhood. Bwahahaha
Shoot me a p.m. with your new address.

Dark Brook Res. in Auburn is my favorite!

I've heard that DARK BROOK has smallies, anybody catch them there?
I think that my favorite close by MA lake is wallum because it has a lot of small mouth and large mouth bass and good structure but i only like to fish there in the spring and fall because it gets slammed with boat traffic in the warmer sumer months.

Well thats a great question, my new pond is Big island pond in NH. We always catch fish here, just havent found the big one yet. We catch the "all day long" ones. If you how what I mean. Also a fav. spot is Long pond in Dracut always catch them there ya even the big one! A great car topper place we fish is Hareld Parker in Andover. Witch is also a GREAT place to ice fish, in fact Denny and I are going there tomorrow, wish us luck!

I hear there are some monster muski in long pond I read an article were they said there were muski caught in the two and a half rage to three ft and they wanted you to kill the fish if caught cause they are invasive spices and not good for the pond when it was stocked a few years ago I personally would let the thing go to be caught a gain Ill try to find the article and post it up.

Only counting lakes and ponds: Spot Pond (Stoneham)
Including rivers: Concord River (Bedford and Billerica section)

Spot Pond for its big healthy bass (and smallmouths, although i haven't caught one there yet)
Concord River for its lunker largies and elusive pike, well elusive to me anyway

Spot pond FTW!

I fish Spot A LOT. Usually night fishing. I usually fish the deep end off the rocks or the beach. All black spinners, black senkos, black buzz baits. The best is when a fat smallie flies out of the water to nail your topwater buzz or spinner. I love Spot.

Going Ice Fishing nearby Spot tmw(Thx Volume) and may check out Spot if our nearby hole is slow. Talked to owner of Arlington Bait and he said he was trying to find out if Spot is legal to ice fish. I'll ask him again tmw morning.

There are trout in there although i've never caught one. I've caught some decent perch but i've seen some really big ones. My buddy has seen a school of a couple dozen lunker bass just sitting in the deep end before and they wouldn't hit anything he threw at them haha.

Not sure I have a favorite but Spot, Wrights and now Whites are prob my top 3. Lexington Res for trout stocking and the random bronze pin bass as well.

So night fishing at Spot? Sweet, I'll have to give it a try this year when the opportunity presents itself.
In one day of fishing Spot Pond last May, it transformed me from an occasional fisher to a determined angler.

I'll have to check out Lexington Rez this year too, another fishing hole close to where I live would be a plus! Thanks for the info

Long Pond? whereabouts is that?

Also, that lake you mentioned a few posts ago, Fawn Lake, sounds pretty good. I am surprised I haven't ran into it yet, its right near Nuttings Pond and the Concord River, where I did some fishing this year.

Long pond in dracut I'm pretty sure shore fishing is almost none existent im not sure tho but a guy I worked with lives there and would always talk about it.

Fawn is a great place Ill have to show you one day when it warms up I don't have and ice gear.

Nutting has some beasts and the one people speak of from the tunnel under the road weighs about 4.5 last year i was always told 7+ hahaha so much for that but if you have ever been to Jims quick stop most if not 98% of the fish in the pictures were talking out of there great spot hope I find a john boat for that place next year only 1.8 miles from my house.

How much fishing can be done from shore at spot and can you put a john boat in there.

plenty of shore fishing at Spot, but you can't put your own boat in. you can rent them from the pirates that operate on the northeastern side of the lake...

I have no doubt that there are bass in there that could be close to (or more than) 10 pounds...its deep, has tons of feed, and they stock it with trout. That's how those bass in the California Reservoirs get to be 20 lbs. There is the possibility that there is too much feed in that place though, making them not want to bite your fake lure.

How about spy pond just came across that one have seen people on the shore what about boats.

Posted Mon Jan 10, 2011 11:25 pm

There is a boat launch on Pond Lane at the north end of the lake. Arlington Bait and Tackle is right down the street too, if you need gear or bait.

Ah yes, now I remember reading about Long Pond on the MassWildlife website.

Yup, Jims Quick Shop is the sh**! I went there about 3 days ago and bought a crap load of his plastics that he puts on the counter. I guess its stuff that he used over the course of the year so some bags have a few pieces missing. I got 6 bags of plastics for $10 (3 bags of Senkos, 2 bags of Zoom lizards 6 and 8 inch, and paca chunk craws). I was very happy when I stumbled upon Jims last year.

Spot has TONS of shore access, which is one of the many reasons I like it there so much (i am boatless). Almost the whole lake is fishable from shore. As far as boats on Spot... No private boats whatsoever are allowed. There are row boats, canoes, and kayaks available to rent, although quite expensive from what I hear. Maybe this is why the fish population thrives. Also, I should point out that I don't think I have ever seen anyone out on a rental boat fishing, the people I see renting are just there for boating recreation. One of these days I want to rent a row boat and target the deep larry's that I know lurk out in the deep, I bet some have never even seen a lure. Apparently fishing was opened at the lake back in 99, here's an article on it: http://www.stonehamindependent.com/archives/1999/05/19/2

lexington res gets very little fishing pressure. i've actually probably fished lexington res more than any body of water. it's a tiny place with good shore access all around.

in the summer's we'll nightfish for bass off the beach and catch a dozen schoolies. my buddy pulled up a 6lb largemouth off the shore to the right of the beach on a black spinner one night. just as we were about to leave too.

there are even some very large carp in there although i don't see them very often. some decent sized snapping turtles as well. lex res gets stocked with rainbows in the spring and there is always a lot of trout pressure during the following 2-3 weeks. it's so small that you can't help but walk away with a limit in an hour or two tops immediately after stocking.

winter's tough for ice fishing as there generally will be a lot of kids playing hockey and ice skating. when we used to ice fish there we'd probably have 10 different groups of kids come up to us during a 4 hour period and ask us what we were doing and to show them how to ice fish haha. they always wanted to stand around with us until they actually saw a fish come up through the ice.

i actually stopped by there last night for half an hour to test out my new vexilar. parking is great as there is a dusk to dawn lot 100 yards away and a small parking area right next to the beach that you can access via the elementary school behind the res.

Excellent! Thanks for all the info
good shore access is great for a shore fisherman like me and hooking some trout after the stock would be a treat for sure.
