I was just figured Id ask the question whats your favorite lake or pond to fish, If your a shore fisherman or boater and what you like about it.

I'm strictly a shore fisher man but I'm in the market for a john boat to build a deck on for next year so I try to stick to little ponds my favorite pond actually has no name so I tell you about my second favorite it called Fawn pond in Bedford MA Its rather shallow with an average depth of four feet and at its deepest point Ive been told is six feet. Its one of those places people always say is to weedy during the summer but great in the spring and fall but the weeds play into my fishing style. It has alot of matted grass and lay downs from the two beavers also 1\3 of the pond has a good patch of lily pads to fish a frog, flip or what have you. It has a walking trail around the wood of the lave and the place is maintained by the mass wildfife witch is nice it also has a realy nice canoo ramp and parking.

Now lets hear yours.

Hey - a great question, and I hope you get a lot of responses. Chances are though you might not ... human nature being what it is.
I'll check in though ... mine this past year+ has been Robbins pond in Halifax ... also a shallow pond, and on the small side for sure. Mostly sub-surface weeds make it challenging once the weather warms, but it has some decent fishing. Took a very decent bass there in Sept. lost a real decent pickerel at the net (I only wade fish - and, this is a decent wading pond) and I saw a Calico that shocked me with its size ! Nearby is Burrage pond ... also decent, but a hike in ... it's worth a look though. If you drop a small canoe in (long carry) there's lots of 'wood' to fish.

Well ... there's two !

Now, a bit of a warm spell and some open water and I'll try the wade again ... there's brood stock out there !

If i had to pick a favorite it probably would be Lake Cobbossecantee,Me. And a few more i haven't had time to fish. But for a local area i think Lake Quacumquasit (s. pond) because it is heavily trout fished and i just think there is a healthy bass population to be caught. The state record pike cam from there too. If it has water I'd probably like to fish it!

any place that is quiet and has fish, lol. we like farm pond in framingham as it's 15 mins from the house. it's perfect for car toppers, a little more difficult for trailers, but we do it. the ramp is mostly gravel, soft, and shallow. can make it difficult to get the boat off without pushing it and then pulling it back on. not a place for driving onto the trailer.

but it's a nice size pond, no pleasure boats, no swimmers, etc. 10 - 15 feet average. a ton of weeds near the launch area, but opens up the further you go out. a lot of shore fishing, but only on one side. the good spots are off of the CSX train property on the other side and nobody fishes that shore.

we consistently catch nice bass (2 - 4 lbs) with some bigger fish mixed in. there are also some monster pickerel in there too. i prefer this place over cochituate any day. (also 15 mins from the house).

usually hit farm pond on week nights after work because it's close, but always looking for new spots to hit on the weekends.

Couldn't help but respond to this string. the pond fishing around here is so fun and convenient.

In downtown Winchester is Wedge Pond, right across from the Stop-n-shop. Most folks pass right by it and hardly notice it, but a great fishery; bass, crappie, pickerel, panfish, catfish and then after every big spring flood some trout from Horn Pond get washed down. The inflow and outflow are right near the street so too great spots when the water moving. You can park, and fish off the bride where the outflow is located, and be two steps from your car door. When the water flows the fish set up right in the creek bed in the outflow. every year I see about the same 3-4 guys fishing it, so very little pressure.

Had to chime in one this one, if you want a Mass lake that holds quality bass both LGM and SMTH and a lake that also has trout, salmon , pike cats etc you have to give Webster Lake a try.

Great all around fishery.

Hmm...favorite pond. I guess it depends on whether I'm at school or not. At school, Lake Metacomet in Belchertown, MA. Big bass and lots of lilly pads which is my favorite. At home, Whitman's Pond in Weymouth, MA. This place has it all, down trees, submerged boulders, gravel, sand, bushes, and lots of lilly pads. Plenty of cover, different coves to protect you from the wind and not much boat traffic.

Hey dragonhunter,

when you said Robbins Pond were you referring to the bigger section with all of the houses on it or the back section near the cranberry bogs? I've fished the back section and that place is loaded with submerged trees. Almost too much in fact, we rode up on two of them and got stuck for about 5 minutes.

I fished the bigger half for about 10 minutes until my prop broke but the section in the back away from the houses looked like it should produce some good bass. Have you had any experience back there?

Only counting lakes and ponds: Spot Pond (Stoneham)
Including rivers: Concord River (Bedford and Billerica section)

Spot Pond for its big healthy bass (and smallmouths, although i haven't caught one there yet)
Concord River for its lunker largies and elusive pike, well elusive to me anyway

Of course! I love Spot Pond, it should be great this spring. I have a couple other places too in the immediate area worth checking out.

So my favorite spot I'm sure will come as a shocker but I have to go with Lake Maspenock in Hopkinton MA. It has produced many 4-6 pound large mouths during the two years I've lived on the lake. There are nice smallies and plenty of pickerel as well. My favorite time fishing is at night using the jitterbug or big swimbaits. There are plenty of submerged rocks and weeds all over the lake and trees on the shore line. A few nice coves to fish as well with some pads to throw at in the morning or when the main lake is windy.

Lake Winthrop in Holliston is also a favorite that comes to mind. Plenty of lili pads and some deep drop offs near the main island. No motor boats allowed so boat traffic is limited to canoes, kayaks and car toppers which makes it quiet and peaceful to angle. There are some Big fish in that lake!

I'm definately going to start venturing out a bit and think this thread is a great way to get some ideas out there. I'm buying a house about 300 feet from Lake Boon in Hudson so I'm looking forward to having some new waters to explore.

Spot pond FTW!

I fish Spot A LOT. Usually night fishing. I usually fish the deep end off the rocks or the beach. All black spinners, black senkos, black buzz baits. The best is when a fat smallie flies out of the water to nail your topwater buzz or spinner. I love Spot.

Going Ice Fishing nearby Spot tmw(Thx Volume) and may check out Spot if our nearby hole is slow. Talked to owner of Arlington Bait and he said he was trying to find out if Spot is legal to ice fish. I'll ask him again tmw morning.

There are trout in there although i've never caught one. I've caught some decent perch but i've seen some really big ones. My buddy has seen a school of a couple dozen lunker bass just sitting in the deep end before and they wouldn't hit anything he threw at them haha.

Not sure I have a favorite but Spot, Wrights and now Whites are prob my top 3. Lexington Res for trout stocking and the random bronze pin bass as well.

Id love to ice fish but don't have the gear to do so but the place I spoke of in bedford got some huge bass and 4lb plus pickrell and is on 6 ft deep at its deepest so if all else false try to google map fawn pond or lake and try it out.
