Can't wait to get mine done, please don't forget me last week of February first week of March

I was up there earlier to run the cables and start the electrical. I couldnt believe how much fabrication he got done in one day. My first impression of the 1236 was WOW that is a wide jon boat, but with the extra width come some additional weight. Zack you are going to love this setup. Let me know if you want to talk about what fishfinder to get.

I don't wanna spend a ton of money on a new fishfinder. I'm looking at the Lowrance elite 4. I want a color screen and am infatuated with DSI. Any thoughts?

HOW MUCH DO THOSE TROLLERS COST?

Posted Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:51 am

great work once again. i would've gone with that wider boat but weight was an issue. shawn, is that DSI only? it doesn't look bad, just a little small. but if you won't be fishing deep water and using it to get on top of fish, you should be fine. smoke, they cost way too much. you can find it for under $500 but then the quick release bracket is about $50.

damon, any chance you could build a simple dolly like this?

There are so many great value priced fishfinders out there, it all depends on what and where you are fishing. If you fish shallow and are going to stay shallow you don’t really need a high powered finder. I recommend buying the best most powerful your budget can allow. I prefer Lowrance finders over any of the other brands, I am most comfortable with them.

The elite series is a great way to get into a high quality FF fairly cheap. Down Imaging will completely change how you look at structure. BUT if you are not going to be fishing deeper structure the Mark series will work just fine. Also, you will need to decide if you would like a GPS on it. The lower cost units with GPS typically do not come preloaded with contour maps, so you will have to factor in a basic Navionics card ($90-100).

I would look at the 5” finders in either grayscale or color. I HIGHLY recommend spending the extra $ and getting color.

Whatever fish finder you purchase, spend some time with it on the water. Understand what you are looking at and how to tweak the settings. Lowrance allows you to customize everything very easily. It is always nice to have the latest and greatest HDS gen2 touch, but if you don’t understand what you are looking at it is useless. The best part of DSI is you can compare the 2d sonar image to the DSI image.

There are a couple online retailers that offer some great pricing. You have the email them to get the special pricing.

BOE marine and BBG electronics.

You can also browse the classified on www.bassboatcentral.com There are usually some great deals there.

shawn, i have a humminbird but want a lowrance. the next finder i get will be lowrance simply because of the interface. it's a lot more user friendly and easier to quickly tweak the advanced settings. it's not like you can't on a hummingbird, but lowrance just makes it easier.

i agree about maximizing the use out of your electronics. there are a lot of videos out there and make sure to read the entire manual. a simple exactly is changing the beam. when we went out, i was changing between the wide/narrow beam overlay when cruising around to just the narrow beam once we got to an area with a lot of fish.
