I agree with Roger. I actually took your post a bit personally Ken. We are all in this for fun, no need to downplay the safety of us cartoppers, or to act like its my fault I cant afford a big boat at this point in my life. Or to suggest I should feel grateful to fish along side of big boats. Thats garbage and a club like attitude if you ask me.

A few minutes is not a long time at all man, you have to be kidding me. You have the luxury of getting from point A to B in 2 minutes my friend. I dont complain at all about that, i just think its insane for you to tell me 5 minutes to make sure im safe is too much for you to handle. We used to go last, but almost go tipped doing that last year.

While i appreicate fishing in these tournaments with "big boats", i think some people need to take a step back and understand how these tournaments started and the friendly nature that has existed since day 1.

I want to win as much as anyone, but i would rather everyone get off the lake alive and with all their gear over winning a a few bucks.

Ken, your a great dude, and even better angler. So i respond with all the respect in the world. I just dont want people thinking mine, rogers, or any other cartoppers safety isnt worth 5 damn minutes of their time!!!

5 mins is fine with me if that ensure you guys get out safe then so be it, no more debate needed fact is every one should be aware of everyone's safety at any given time

As far as 5 in the livewell goes (last time I'm going to try to explain this) 5 means 5, go back and read Stratos Post a few comments back , as soon as you catch fish 6 you cull immediately (unless you jig up a trout for dinner)

I dont recall these being called bassboat tourneys. Pretty sure the guy who ran these for years fished out of a cartopper until he got his nice big boat.

f uck it if a 5 minute head start is too much. My boat wont tip anyway. I'm in it for the fun, when it stops being fun I stop fishing the tourneys. Some egos out of control around here.

I do like some of the new simple rules, the rest is over thinking.

see you guys in a few weeks, if we get in that is.

i agree with the ego thing kman, some of these topics get way out of hand because of it. keep it simple guys, give the cartoppers whatever time they feel is safe for them, and obviously respect the fact that they arent in as stable boats as others as the day goes on too i know i do. i have alot of gear that i dont want to lose and im sure no one else does either. even in my boat i have had a few scares from wakes from the bigger bass boats that would have def. swamped a cartopper. its not a good feeling.

I agree with you both guys let's just let this go and get back to being focused on Next Sunday. Kman you guys will get it don't worry about it bud!

There are clearly advantage to both, I remember the first tournament I went to with MAFF, two guys out fished us from a little red canoe, and placed in the money! I was in awe!! I have seen the biggest fish caught last year from a little cartoppper from an area I just fished, that team won that day. I have seen smoke finish average ahead of big boats, including me year after year. My point being spend isn't everything! What's five minutes, for the safety of your FRIENDS? When you see guys that have been fishing this trail before me ,even think about not coming anymore makes me SICK!

I have a question. If safety is such a concern why send out the car toppers first? Would it not make more sense to send the bigger boats out first and then there are no wakes to worry about?

Also if you are using a number system to launch, how does that work with car toppers and a five minute delay? All car toppers go regardless of number? or what? How will that work?

While I am throwing out questions... why are big boats not allowed in the car topper series? Not all of the car topper lakes are off limits to trailers. If the big boat takes off their big prop and uses only an electric troller, can they fish? Similar to old Quabbin regs..

With all of the people wanting to fish these T's is there any thought or advantage to make a bass boat trail and a car topper trail, as well as the normal mixed trail? Just throwing ideas around.

We've had this discussion over and over and to my knowledge big boats are not allowed in cartoppers, the cartopper tournys are a lot of fun because of this. Get a small rig and enter in one

this one's been beat to death. I like trail mix

Ok guys, I guess I will go and search the past for the answer to the car topper question, but what about the other questions I posed?

Posted Thu Apr 12, 2012 10:12 pm

With the launch numbers I say the toppers go at once whether it be before or after big boats, which ever THEY decide

Posted Thu Apr 12, 2012 10:14 pm

Correct me if I am wrong. Every sunday we usually sit around and wait until everyone is in the water or until 7 so we can start our engines. In theory nobody has to wait any extra time if we just let the toppers go a little earlier. Just make it fair, don't throw your poles into the water until the tourny has started. Although. I do also agree that it would be a little safer if they let the bigger boats go by them first.
