I can see both ways being fair, but what I don't like is how teams "Jump" in just to lock up a position and then the Saturday night before, they bow out. This leaves almost no time to get a replacement and that's unfair to those shut out prior, especially if you placed in the tourney before. Whereas if you automatically place, you have say 4-5 days before the next tourney to give up your spot if you can't make it. Much better and fair to those shut out early, just because someone said they'd be there and weren't, often giving just hours for notice.
Things come up and I am the first say so, but in most cases you're gonna know in advance if you can't make it 4-5 days out, not hours. I know we came in 2nd for one tourney and by the time we went home, the next tourney was filled up. There were teams that dropped out after the fact and we got in the next tourney anyhow and just in time, but it was proclaimed after that, that if you place you'll be in automatically for the next.
I won't rant or debate about it anymore and will go with what Smoke and Johnny say as a rule. I am just happy we are coming up on the best time of the year and looking forward to fishing with everyone! It's the only "Me" time I usually get, so it's few and far between. Cya on the water boys!
I hear ya. There is really no way to prevent "First Come, First Serve," but it does lead to people signing up 1st, then worrying about making the tournament later, which leads to Saturday Night bow outs and leaving no time for bubble teams to get notice and make it the next morning.
Certainly things do come up, but for the most part, people shouldn't sign up if they are unsure if they can attend.
On that point, I think the tourney sign up should open up on the Monday after the previous tournament. Not on the Sunday of a tournament, since most of us are exhausted from the 4am wake up and fishing all day. Most of us probably wont make it to 7pm to sign up or whatever the time is set at, haha.
Just my opinion, but either way, things will work out. Smoke and Johnny always make it work!
why not then just enforce some sort of notification policy like - tell everyone you are out 3 days in advance or some time period. if you don't, then you're out for the next tournament. if it happens again, you're out for the year or something a little harsher. that would solve the sat. night cancellation.
guys first come first serve is the only way to have it not be a private club. If you place in previous tourney you are guaranteed a spot to defend your previous top 3 finish. If you want to have a guaranteed spot every tourney, all you have to do is place.
sounds good whoever places is automatically entered the bad thing is if its a new team sometimes they don't show the next one. i agree tho if you place then your spot is secured

If they don't show, they don't show, but they must still confirm if they're oing to be there or not. It's only fair and courteous to all!
unfortunately nicholas and i will not be able to make this one as i will be traveling for work. we plan on attending the 2nd one and will see everyone there.
You guys must be psyched the first tourney is almost here!
Team BassMonkey will probably be able to start entering for the Mystic Lake and Concord River Tournaments. Its tough with no boat but luckily we have a canoe we can borrow.
Looking forward to the tourneys we can make, and have a blast at the tourney on the 23rd!
First come, first serve works most of the time, so it probably makes sense to give it a few tourneys to see how things go.
If it turns into a mess, with people constantly holding a spot and then canceling, how about instead of posting on here your spot is secure when Smoke has your entry fee in hand? It might be too much hassle I guess, but it would help curb the spot holding.
On a related note, is there a size limit on the permits? I know that the EPA comes into play once you are over 25 boats and that gets expensive (something like 360 bucks to have an officer be present which is required at that size), but could we run a 25 boat field without violating permits?
we could run a larger tourney Michael, but i won't do it.
these are getting bigger and bigger every year and my goal is to keep them nice and small and hassle free!
these permits are actually for 15 max but if it comes up at the ramp by someone than a few of the cartoppers won't be with us (wink wink)
ha ha TAG TEAM IS A GOOD THOUGHT FOR MAYBE 1 NEXT YEAR HA HA NEVER KNOW BUT JOHNNY IS RIGHT MOST OF THESE THE CUTOFF WILL BE 15 SORRY GUYS BUT WE DONT WANT 20 TO 25 BOATS WE LIKE THE 15 MAX IT WILL WORK OUT AND REMEBER ITS JUST FUN TO FISH IT WILL WORK OUT
