Me and the Bassasin's hit the Q on Sunday for some smallie action. We had heard that they were hanging out in the 15-20 ft range but couldn't find them there. We checked a little deeper with no results and then moved in a little. We saw fish on beds so we caught them instead. The morning was nice and cool but by noon it was in the 80's. We caught a bunch of smallies. The only one not taken off a bed was the biggest. Dunt bagged a 3.14 on a KVD square billed crank in about 10 feet of water around some of the coolest rock structure I've ever seen. I'm hoping to get back up there next week.
thx ...im heading up monday gate 32 ..hopeing the heat wave this week is ganna make them all bed up. but thx for ur story i would have missed the spawn i waited till june!!
The beds were sporadic. Some of the fish were caught on the 1st or 2nd cast and some took a lot more work. There were even a couple that won the battle.
beautiful sally!...and if u wouldnt mind ...were their alot of beds and did it take alot of casts to make them react? I go to the Q every year at the spawn and thought it would be early this year because of the warm winter. Smallies ussually spawn around the mid june up their..ill be gratefull if u can give me a heads up!
I'm not sure exactly where to find smallies other than here or wachussett but I've seen trips from the south shore and the cape that had smallies
