Quabbin Laker
Out on the Quabbin Wednesday with my oldest son, Mickey, and his buddy, Brady. Cool day to say the least. We're on the water at 6:30 and I've got a little smallie on a Zara Spook in the first 10 minutes. I pick off a few more smallies on a jerkbait. The boys are more interested in trout. Brady gets his first Laker on a spoon! After some roaming between deep and shallower water, Mickey hits a 3 pound smallie on a craw. We then venture further and deeper. I see some structure and Mickey gets another 3 pound smallie on a spoon and says, "I was hoping for a trout!" Back to shallow water for a bit and I get a 3 pound Smallie on a grub. On to deep water again working our way back toward home base. At about 3:30, Mickey says, "I think I might have one." 5+ minutes later after reeling and pulling drag, I see the flash and get ready with the net. Big fish! I net him and there are high fives all around! 7 pound 2 oz Laker on a spoon! Not bad for a first Laker! We fish our way back with nothing else and drive to Belchertown for weight certification for Pin. An awesome day of firsts!
