Any reviews on punch hooks? I just started hitting the pads and heavy cover at the end of last season. I don't remember ever talking about hooks. Anybody using these? http://www.OutdoorProShop.com/Gamakatsu-Hooks-Flipping-Super-Heavy-Cover-p/gamakatsu-heavycover-super.htm

I use a paycheck baits punch hook. There are a lot of good ones on the market now. As long as you have a welded eye and a beefy hook you will be fine.

Do you also use a snell knot? I gotta learn that one

Yup snell knot is a must.

Good old fishermans knot. If you want you can double loop the eye, I don't. I feel my hook up ratio is MUCH better with this knot JMO. I think Joe will admit it does work for me.

Also Shawn you want a rod with some give at the tip so your not ripping out hooks.

Snell Knot YES, Gammy / Paycheck NO.

Ralph will agree with the snell knot I think. I think the best knot is the modified snell knot. Much faster and strong. Hook still flares out with it like you get with the snell. I've never broken off with 50 / 65 lb. braid.

Both of those hooks are fine but the keeper sucks. Absolutely AWFUL unless you want to have to keep putting heat shrink on it and using a lighter.

Get these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Hack_Attack_Heavy_Cover_Flipping_Hooks/descpage-SKHAFH.html

Or these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Mustad_Denny_Brauer_Grip_Pin_Max_Flippin_Hook_5pk/descpage-MGPEH.html

I used maybe 2 hack attack hooks for 1/2 of the year for standard pitching and heavier punching. It's that sharp and the plastic keeper never moved. It's forged on there.

Ken is right and the rod is key. If you try a snell make sure that you dont peg the weight too tight to the hook, that is where most guys go wrong and the hook won't kick out properly on the hookset.

I have a skeet reese 8' flippin stick. I also bought the peg x stops. I need to get some skirts and a couple of different sized weights. Thanks for that vid Sam that knot looks pretty easy

Shawn,

try the Trocar heavy cover hook, the one with the spiked keeper near the eye. I never use Trocar brand because of the cost, except I think the heavy-cover hook is great for punchin. The hooks are super sharp, but mostly the hook shaft (yeah... I said shaft!) is super strong, much better than any other hook.

The one hook worth spending a little more on.

Thats the video I used to learn how to tie a snell. Its a great knot! Does anyone add a extra loop on the shank when using fluro? I been doing 4 wraps, and have no idea if that is positive or negative?
