Hahaha, Nice response Bam...

For me, I just like being outside and love fishing. If you're dressed properly, you won't even notice the cold, and when you get a bonus warm day, you could be out there in a sweatshirt. It also depends what you're fishing for. If I'm panfishing, I explore different parts of the lake to find out where they are and then catch a bunch and bring them home to eat. For bass, pickerel, pike, it is more of a waiting game. But I also have a lightweight jigging rod that I will use on top of my tip-ups. and I will tell you, catching a good sized pickerel or bass on one of those through the ice is awesome. There's also the social aspect of hanging out with friends, family, etc.

EXACTLY! well said volume. Also I just want to add that icefishing can be a valuable tool in learning where to find fish in the cold water periods. This is when most(new) guys have trouble locating or atleast catching fish.My top three biggest bass have come when the place was still 3/4 covered in ice.Its funny cause I always ask guys to go this time of year and I get the same responce"what are you kiddin"or "its way too cold" even from guys that just caught tons of bass icefishing with me all iceup.I chuckle at how silly that really is.Now dont get me wrong,it is cold and fishing is slow, you will fish all day for a bite maybe several days but the ones you do stick are almost always above average quality in my findings.I think I owe atleast a good part of my luck in coldwater too the scouting icefishing provides.

I'm guessing the lack of family to tag along with might remove some of the charm =) Mostly I think it's the sitting around waiting part that I have a hard time feeling good about. But maybe I'll try to find a way to get out once or twice this coming winter and see how it feels in person. You never know, it might be just the ticket =)

Thanks for the insights, fellas!

Hey It's too early to talk about ice fishing it's 90 out. Or is it that thinking of winter cools you off?

I think this site has a definite bass lean on it, with just a dash of other species. I think the silence is just as likely to simply be the lack of knowledge as the unwillingness to share.

I would agree, I've had the opportunity to meet several of the members and they have all been pretty open and willing to share their knowledge.
