North River Flounder (Fluke)
Decided to launch the canoe in the north river last night and scout a few spots for stripers. low tide (in scituate harbor) was at about 6 so I figured I could find some of the deeper pockets. Note to self and anyone who launches in the river; it had been a while since I have done this and I thought the tide was only an hour behind scituate. Not true, at least 2+ hours different since we caught the outgoing tide when we launched and still had to paddle against the current (still going out) on our way back around 8:30. No fun.
The upside, sorta, is we didn't get skunked. Was using my freshwater gear since I don't do much saltwater fishing and managed to hook into a 3.6lb flounder (fluke). I was using my ultralight setup with 10lb powerpro and this guy took about 10-15mins to boat. Fought like a champ, I thought he was gonna break my 5'6" micro-graphite a few different times when he ran. I caught him on a baby bass colored rubber minnow on a 1/4oz jig which he inhaled. I got lucky he didn't get off, his teeth put some pretty nice nicks in the braid. Sorry about the picture quality, we were fighting daylight and my camera in my phone isn't that great.
