I came here a few days ago to do some panfishing for fun. I used a small rubber bluegill and had constant action all day. I landed a ton of crappie and a few sunfish and perch. The water is warm and the fish are active!
This is one of my favorite places to fish and probably the place I have fished the most over the years. Living less than a 5min walk from there as a kid we did a lot of fishing, there are some great bass, pickerel and crappie. occasionally a decent sized perch too.
Good place to fish, seen some very nice sized chain pickerel and LMB.
This is a VERY nice place to fish, the pond as a whole produces some excellent Largemouth, Pickerel, and Crappie. The lilly pads on the Eastern shore near the island produce 2-4 pound bass regularly. Ive also caught Crappie here at dusk many times, that are legitimately the size of my head.
Jacobs Pond is a small, shallow, fertile impoundment of Third Herring Brook. It is believed to be one of the oldest impoundments in Massachusetts. The northern two-thirds of the pond is almost completely covered with lily pads, coontail and other aquatic vegetation in summer, and most of the rest of the pond is heavily weeded as well, making boating and fishing rather difficult. The bottom is mud and silt. The pond is located just east of the junction of Route 53 and 123. The access is off Jacobs Lane, which is off Route 123. There is a dirt ramp suitable for trailed boats and enough parking space for several dozen cars. Fish Populations: largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, golden shiner, bluegill, brown bullhead, black crappie and American eel. Yellow perch and golden shiners were extremely abundant. The shiners provide good forage for the bass, pickerel, perch and crappie.
This pond provides good to excellent fishing for largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch and black crappie (“calicos”), all of that are present in good numbers of harvestable size. The problem is the dense vegetation. While panfish can be angled from small pockets in the weeds, those in pursuit of bass and pickerel will be limited to weedless and mostly top water lures. This should be an excellent pond for late season ice fishing or early spring open water fishing when the weeds do not present a problem.
