Little Alum is a 73-acre pond located approximately one mile north of Route 20 off Little Alum Pond Road in Brimfield. Depth averages 17 feet with a maximum of 42 feet. The water is clear and of good quality with a transparency of 15 feet. Trout water analysis indicates a marginal trout layer is present. Bottom type is predominantly mud and coarse rubble with many large boulders. Aquatic weeds are sparse and patchy along parts of the shoreline. The shoreline 75% developed with year round homes and summer cottages. A gravel public boat ramp is located next to the outlet stream and is off Little Alum Road. Shoreline fishing is limited to the area immediately adjacent to the boat ramp. Recreational usage of the pond is heavy in the summer with water skiing and swimming the most popular activities. Fish Populations: largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, white perch, pumpkinseed, bluegill, golden shiner, longear sunfish and brown bullhead. The most abundant gamefish are largemouth bass and the most abundant panfish bluegills. Also rainbow and brown trout are stocked here.
The pond is stocked in the spring and fall with rainbow trout. Brown trout are stocked in the fall when they are available. Considerable fishing pressure exists for the trout from April through June. Presently, the largemouth bass are over harvested with few legal sized individuals present. The yellow perch were found to be of better than average size and should provide good fishing. Ice fishing is predominantly for trout, yellow perch and limited number of chain pickerel.
