I have access to a pond on a golf course. In the spring it is loaded with pollywogs and then bullfrogs until late July. The Bass I catch here are small so I am wondering how they bulk up from August on? I added a dozen or so sunfish last year and never saw them again. Should I buy some bait minnows or shiners and put them in? Or let nature alone. Thanks Cool

stock shiners!!! then you also have a bait pond so you can trap them! if you use them or ice fish

Are you getting permission from the pond owner? If they agree then fine, but if you're doing it on the sly, don't.

I would definitely do some research on the effects of adding a new species. I'm no biologists but I'm pretty sure more than one pond has been ruined by adding fish that don't belong there

the way i think about my last post is that they might of already been that pond(native fish) before but something happended like disease over fishing etc. if they were they before but died off and arent there anymore would it disrupt the ecosystem???? and balance of the pond??

The transporting of any fish, native or not from one body of water to another is illegal.

That actually happened at this West Newbury pond. Someone brought in some pickerel, for whatever reason, and it destroyed the fish population.

On the map (red arrow), there's even a little placard stating as much reminding how harmful this practice is.

Tons of ponds i wanted to do the same thing. Truth be told even if you stock them with plenty of forage and nothing harmful it still doesn't mean the bass will grow any bigger. Alot of ponds just dont support the means of growing big fish for whatever reasons. My guess is alot of them have to due with water quality.. not so much food... I see ponds filled with bluegills perch etc and all they got is dinky stunted bass.

That is a violation of mass fish and game laws! Just to let you know.

I could be wrong but I think if it's a private pond the owner can control the fishery the way they want.
