So I have the butt connectors, fuse holder etc. and am about to do some wiring for my fish finder. I'm just adding a 3 amp inline fuse.

My question is about different wire gauges. The wire from the battery source is 18 gauge and the inline fuse wire is 16 gauge. Is that ok going from smaller gauge to bigger since the power draw is going through the smaller gauge wire first?

Yes Sam that wire is fine even though it's a different size. The important factor is the fuse. Both 18 and 16 guage wire will handle the load with no problem.

Should be good to go. I worried about the same thing with my wiring my fish finders in the past. Difference in wire size did not create problems with me. Go for it.

Sam think of electricity is like water. If you went to a larger pipe you wouldn't interupt the amount of flow. If you went to a smaller pipe the flow could slow down as it gets choked up.

You'll be perfectly fine with that fuse holder.

No problems sam , as the guys said befor its the 3amp fuse that matters. if it was a 30 amp fuse u could run into som trouble. if u short out the positive wire

Sam
Don't use eletrical tape even though you have butt conectors always use a srink wrap on them after, water can get by everthing
just a little added protection.

true but unless you use marine shrink wrap with glue inside, shrink wrap leaks too.
