Chuck,

I don't hit the Q until 4th of July weekend. No judgement but fishing for bedding bass to me is not right. Bass gotta eat and at the Q they stay DEEP. That spot between the islands I noted last post is a major travel zone for the bruisers. I love an empty Q and deep water fishing.

Opening day until just before they bed is by far the best shot at a trophy smallie. IMO. Summertime you can get more numbers of 2-4 lb fish but the 5+ fish come prespawn. A 7+ was caught last April

So Rich, when are you gonna play guide for me at the Q? I pay in BBQ Smile

Agree to disagree. Come July and August no one is at the Q. If you know how and where the smallies travel they still gotta eat. Summertime is the right time and no biological forced edge needed.

Unfortunatly I do not have a Q boat. 25hp 4 stroke or 20hp 2 stroke or less, power washed with cetificate and cable locked to trailer, only to be unlocked and relocked by q ramp attendee. I rely on a friend to take me.

To me Summer smallie fishing there is video game fishing, idol around watching eletronics, see fish, drop down, catch fish. It's fun but year in year out the biggest fish come prespawn and the females are migrating.

Stratos,
It's not that hard really. Philosophical difference. Maybe if peeps layed off the spawners we might have bigger fish in Massachusetts. But you are 100% right, biggest fish come at those times.

EDIT: I just rent a boat there and attach a portable sonar. Use my map from NE Cartographics quite a bit too.

I do not fish spawners there. I am talking prespawn. plucking fish off beds for fun is no fun at all

Cool brother, on that I am glad we agree. Very Happy

Just saying they eat all year and by summer after suspending and travelling their routes, they get fat come August. WAY less spooky too down 20-30 feet.

EDIT: my profile pic is at the Q; calm day in August and fishing an old railroad track near Russ Mountain.

Bed fishing is not that easy. You can spent a lot of time trying to catch one. Maybe or may not be successful. It is fun to watch how they react to the baits. It is OK, the number of bed fish you catch/release won't won't even have a dent for the whole fishery.
