Hey guys, just curious as to how everyone's year in terms of bass fishing has been so far!

I've heard some people have been having a great year with lots of decent bass while I know some other guys have been doing horribly. Personally, this year has been all quantity with a huge lack of quality. I've probably landed over 150 bass with less than 5 of them weighing over 2 pounds Sad

Maybe some of y'all that have been fairing a little better can share what strategies have been working out for you and toss us less fortunate guys a tip haha

I've been having a decent year. All the bigger fish I've caught have been on jigs. I've caught a lot of good fish on crank baits too.

I can't complain. I haven't broke 6 yet but have a few 5's. Had a couple of 50+ fish days. Caught my PB striper and pike. Haven't stuck a fish on a big swimbait yet which has been a little frustrating.

Just put time in on the water and really be willing to change what your doing each day.

I got my two 7lbs on first bass outing. then probably got over 200 bass. 4 of them in 5 pounds range.

Although, I fish entirely different spot. Nothing on my stomp ground until last week of April. it was got heat up but I stopped fish it.

All of this was only in April. then I didn't do bass fishing ever since. Felt that I could do more better but saltwater is calling me.

I categorize my "success" in fishing by how damn good I feel mentally after I go fishing. My numbers don't exactly come in near some of the others, caught one bass that was almost 5 lbs in late April and all the rest have been smaller. I probably haven't caught over 40 bass this year, but I only fish one day a weekend. But, I can tell you one thing - I am having one hell of a good year!!!Been exploring, seeing new places and having a good time relaxing and fishing!!

Until this past weekend I've had a horrible year. I've had a hell of a time putting things together on the water. I hit rocks at Sampson and blew out my lower unit and put a small hole in the boat. The first time out after I got that fixed I was fishing a tournament at Wequaquet, heading into Bearse Pond, and a big wind gust pushed me off the channel a bit and I hit bottom, bending the skeg and mangling the prop a bit. Joy!

Anyway, fished a club tournament last Friday and while I didn't win or anything, I at least caught a limit and culled a few times. Saturday I won a kayak tournament and got lunker. And Sunday I did well at the Watuppa tournament, though I dumped my fish and left early because I was exhausted and assumed I was doing shitty again. Lesson learned. Haha.

Actually, the weekend before last I got lunker for $360 at the NEPVA tournament. Small victories.

Beyond that, though, this year has been s***. I'm blaming our new baby. She's sucking the life from me, keeping me exhausted. Definitely her fault. Laughing

Having a terrible year haven't caught a fish over 4 pounds. Only have been able to make it to one tournament which was Sunday at watuppa, caught actually close to my biggest bass of the year at 3 pounds but couldn't really pull it together so I did the same as Kenwood and get out of there early. Last night in the wind and rain I went to redeem my self at Sampsons which is my stomping grounds and lost the biggest bass of my life no exaggeration, I thought I snagged my square bill on a rock and then that rock decided to pull drag and jump 2 feet out of the water freeing it's self. This was the same spot I caught my PB last year which was a 7.4 and I could tell fish had that beat by a good amount without even touching it. Beyond disappointing haha! Going to hit a little bog pond in Middleboro today that holds monsters maybe I will turn it around. Hey by the way what rock did you hit at Sampsons!?

Less than average for me. Probably around 50 bass, with 40 of them under a pound, 5 over 2 pounds (including one 4.5), and the rest in between. I haven't been putting in the time though... other species have been calling my name Very Happy

I hit the pile right out in front of the ramp. You know, the pile with the bright pink buoy marking them. Haha. No idea how I managed that.

I know this is more of a bass forum, but how's everyone's year been for trout?

Posted Tue Jun 16, 2015 5:43 pm

Decent for trout. But that's by my standards. I'm not really interested in catching state raised, foot long stockies. But I fly fish for them because there are limited native streams nearby, so the best I can do is stocked trout. I've caught probably 12 total, in 2 trips for them.

Its been mostly quantity for me as well. Ive caught prolly around 100 but most were at or under 2lbs. Ive got my 6+ pounder but my next biggest is only 2.5 lbs.

for me, the season has been way below "normal" for me, Ive been out on the water often enough, it just seems the patterns that worked last season have not been paying off for me this year. My numbers per outing are down as are the quality too. It does seem that every time I do get a chance to get out, there has been a weather occurence of some kind, it seems also like every time I get out the wind changes direction at least 2x. It has not deterred me though, best way to get through a slump? Keep on fishing!!

I would say same or better than last year which was good. it is quantity over quality. but I love the 2-3 pounders on light tackle. wish I could fish the south shore ponds but its a ride. I got one 4 so far. that picture looks like my thumb, put 60 fish in the canoe since friday, 20 at A-1 stump pond yesterday.

This is my worst start to the season in at least 5 or 6 years! Mainly because I've gotten out the least amount this year compared to past years. It seems something has been going on every weekend that I can't get out of, graduations, birthday parties, sucky weather.....NO MORE I will be fishing every weekend from now on and I gotta start doing after work trips too. I WILL NOT BE DISCOURAGED!!!!
