Thanks again to Damon and Dan for making my topper into a portable bass boat, I would've never thought it possible. I'm just looking forward to beating its creators and Sam at the first topper tourney Smile

Damon, do you take your motor off every time or leave it on while trailering? I want to leave mine on because of the transducer wiring but still want the option of removal

Posted Thu Jan 31, 2013 5:59 pm

what do you mean by the wiring? the hassle? you've seen my setup. i take it off and the wiring is neatly organized with the zip ties. so you should be able to do both. just buy the lock for the quick release bracket if you're worried about it getting stolen or some idiot messing with your stuff.

As I won't be removing the deck I just don't want to be running the wire under there every time and I'll admit there is a bit of laziness involved. I definitely plan on locking it on.

Sam are you putting your transducer on your TM? I am not sure still what I want to do when I buy my new fish finder. I was thinking just having it in the back of the boat, but I still haven't quite decided.

If you don't have to take it off, don't. Damon's boat is on a trailer and the TM and finder stays on it.

Zach good luck with the boat. We might have to have a Beaver Fever Boats owners tourney HAHA

Zach, if you are going to be dropshotting or fishing over deep structure I would recommend the ducer on the TM. If you just want a depth put it in the back permanently attached.

I'm definitely putting it on the TM

Thanks Dan. One of the two techniques I wanted to learn this season was drop shotting, so I guess putting it on the TM would be best as you said, is it that much more of a hassle to do that for you guys?

i have to take the deck off for now and it sucks. oh well, better than not having the boat.

no hassle. the hassle is me transporting this thing on and in a Honda Accord until i get a truck. so far i've taken the deck off to transport the boat. it only takes an extra minute or two to put in the boat though. i just screwed in the middle 4 bolts. my transducer is on the motor since i do a lot of vertical fishing - drop shot, spoons, etc.

shawn, i believe my wire runs along the left side up along the front edge under the permanent deck so it's separate from the removable deck. the removable deck doesn't really have anything to do with my finder setup if that makes sense. the power cable runs up through the bracket and the small battery goes under the removable deck.

is it 2 separate cables? The FF I have now is one cable. I'll have to look at the new one (I got the Lowrance Elite 4 DSI).

Zach
no problem either way you want to do it.

Sam and Zach's wiring goes up the left side of the boat. We left Zack's right side open just in case he wants to run the ducer to the back. In the conduit there are 3 wires. A pos/neg for the TM and a 18-4 shielded accessory cable. The 18-4 run the nav lights, LED lights, power outlets, and finder if you want. Sam opted to run his finder with a small agm batt under the permanent deck.

Shawn, the elite 4 is powered by a set of pigtails that is combined with the ducer cable. So the best installation if you want the ducer on the TM is to have the TM permanently attached.
