That's awesome he got stripers at Castle Island... Be warned... The water barely gets more than 1o' deep. If they are there, they're passing through (If they are there, great.... They aren't there that often.).
I fished Castle Island 5 times--all skunks. Once I looked at a depth map, it made perfect sense...Last time I fished the harbor near there on a boat, birds were smashing the surface and there were fish.... Only 1 out of 10 visits there were fish.
Also, I'm always wary of the 'canal's red hot.' I really think some of the reports and bait shops will dissemenate it's red hot regardless of what's really happening.
If you're willing to drive to castle island, I would instead make the trip to newburyport, the Hull gut, or even the Back-river weymouth in the navigation channel.
If you google Nauticul charts for Boston Harbor, just look for areas where water goes 20' or more and fish near there.
There must be loads of pogies around if there are a few fish hanging around. GOOD LUCK!!!!
