Ok, here we go, I want to start this thread to see if we can generate enough interest in an outing. i'm thinking of somewhere kind of neutral to most of us. maybe around lakeville or brockton area. i'm thinking we have a little freindly throw down. boats non boats canoes kayaks. whatever, we can iron out the detals as we go. maybe just time stamped photos of caught fish on scales, so people don't have to worry about live wells and such. i'm only talking like ten bucks a head just to make the outing more interesting, maybe somewhere where we can fire up a grill afterwoods and have a few and shoot the s***. i think this would be a great time. it was very nice meeting popo recently and i look forward to meeting and fishing with more of you. so lets see if we can come up with an idea of where a good place to have it would be, would it be a sat, sun, early i'm sure so we can hang out afterwards. any thoughts?

Definitely sounds like a grand time. It would be great to meet some of the people from the site, and you can't beat fishing and grilling for an outing =)

Johnny, let me know what you think of Long pond, i know some of the other guys have fished it before. i think it might be a good spot. only becasue of the launch and the little park area we might be able to hang out at after. see if its a good spot for that while your there sat, and good luck in the tourney bro.

How about Myles Standish State Forest in Carver. There are many ponds to choose from, each pond has a beach. You can put in canoes and kayaks. We could all meet @ the rangers station get our fishing passes( they are free) and go from there. The best ponds are Charge, Ferings, College and Curlew. In fact College Pond has grills that you can cook w/, just bring the charcoal. oh ya, @ College you do have to pay to park, not much though.
I just called the ranger station and they said that it will be open on the 22nd and it's $5.00 to park for the day. We can get there when the gate opens @ 9:30am. So what do you guys think? Go Fish

Benny, i think you got it bro. can big boats launch as well or is it just beach area, i'll check it out.
when do you think we should shoot for. how about the end of june, sat the 27th or sun the 28th

No big boats buddy, just canoes and kayaks. I said ealier that we will need fishing passes, well we will not need them for College Pond just for the other ponds. June is good I would say lets do it before the kids get out of school. How about saturday 13th or sunday 14th?

I just got the info on mass wildlife web site. It didn't get a great review. But the survey was done in 1995 check it out http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/habitat/maps/ponds/pdf/dfwcoll.pdf

i like the dates, but i think we need a launch. i know of a few guys that will come but have bigger boats. can you think of any other places in the area?

Posted Thu May 07, 2009 6:48 pm

Not really, well not for one and the other. I can find ponds that are good boats but not for anthing else. I can find some that are good for off shore and kayak fishing but not bigger boats. Both, thats tough.

There is this Pond in Halifax. It has a boat ramp for the big boats and you can use a kayak. Its not totally great for off shore fishing. But it can be done. http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/habitat/maps/ponds/pdf/dfwmonpo.pdf

Are you talking about Monponsett Pond? You can go small and probably a "Bass Tracker" type boat there.

The "Nip" is just off route 24 at exit 15. Has a launch, but it can get shallow, gotta watch the depth.

For the Cape, ( large and small boats) I would recommend Peter's Pond in Sandwich, MA. For the Cape, large boats, I would recommend Mashpee-Wakeby, in Mashpee, MA.

I never fished Long Pond in Lakeville, although it's only 10 minutes from my house. I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I have a small John boat with an electric 40 lb thrust motor.

The place down in Wareham that MikeC tried to get a gig at last year is another consideration, Glen Charlie Pond.

The thing is, some places are better suited for differing type boats and we may have some anglers with no boats at all. That's why the Quabbin Resevoir, where everyone doubles up and rents a boat and perhaps a multiple bed bunkhouse might be the way to go. That puts everyone on an equal footing, as far as a boat is concerned. Of, course that's an over-nighter and it is gonna' run into some money and scheduling problems. ( Could be a good drunk though )

why don'y you guys look at lake cochituate in natick ma. nice launch, plenty of land access and a place to hang after. not to far from the mass pike, so 128 north or south to I90 then rte 30 for like 15 minutes. nice peace of water.
any thoughts?[/url]
