Anyone seeing decent open water? Saw a few ponds under 100 acres and still frozen up? Was really hoping to get out tomorrow considering the forecast says it's going to be nice especially if that sun doesn't get blocked out.

Sorry man but I checked Jp pond and Brookline reservoir and the Charles river and even that was still frozen!
I'd wait till Tuesday or wensday to go even though it will be a little colder....

Just got back from Plymouth. Little Pond still had quite a bit of ice, wasn't fishable. Went down the road to Little South and it was even more iced in! Continued south to Long Pond and found the ramp area and the shore area wide open. Cut through Myles Standish on the way home and found all the ponds to be locked in. Thought there would be a lot more open water around that area. Freakin waste of gas! Laughing

Yeah, I have been watching the Charles River webcams waiting for the ice to break. Not there yet.

I'm going to Jamaica pond tonight just to see if the ice has broken up yet and of it has then who knows maybe I'll catch a few! And I had no idea that they had Charles river webcams! I went there on Sunday though and the ice looks pretty skimpy...

Any one know of anywhere to get out tomorrow? Too much ice to open water fish? not enough ice to safetly get out on. I just want to get out and fish on my day off....

Laughing We are in that period of "limbo" on the south shore. Not safe enough to get out on and not enough open water to fish! Maybe after the rain tiomorrow things will be more open. Question

I actually caught a nice rainbow trout at Jamaica pond last night (Monday the thirteenth) in a shallow part of the pond that was only about ten ft deep. I could only cast out like twenty feet because that is where the ice met the water. It was like six thirty pm and very dark. I used gulp garlic dough bait to cover a single salmon egg. Great fun on light tackle! The fish was about sixteen inches and we'll over one pound.

Which parts of the Charles are you guys scouting? Down in the Allston/Brighton/Cambridge area it's flowing pretty good, lots of open water (I drive along it everyday to and from work) as of this afternoon. Supposed to be in the upper 40s tomorrow, I'm gonna give it a shot. There's also a decent spot near the Newton/Watertown line with a rather large waterfall into some deep water that rarely freezes over, I've caught some decent smallies there in the summer, just not a lot of shore access.

Found a pond in Hanson this morning that was free of ice! Went out in the waders. Only got 1 pickerel but it was nice to fish open water again!
