Been thinking about getting a light truck to haul my jon boat around. Seems like a Ford is my best bet for overall performance (price, MPG, regular cab but 8' box). Does anyone have any recommendations? Seems like Sentry in Medford is decent but I have 0 experience with truck dealerships around here.

Going new Sam?

not sure...i'd be willing to do either. 2011 or newer preferably. also, i don't see a big boat and trailer in the near future, so any reason i shouldn't go with a 2 wheel drive truck? is the 4 wd and the higher price really worth it? i don't do a lot of hauling or off roading...

I don't know your budget, but I'd go with the old saying "I'd rather have it and not need it, then not have it and need it". You never know what may happen down the line.

Sam, 2 words Toyota Tacoma and thats coming from a ford guy. I have an F150 and its been ok. I know 3-4 guys with Tacoma's and Tundras and they all LOVE them. If you are worried about buying american, I believe all toyotas are now built in america by americans with american made parts. sam if you are going to try and get your small boat into small out of the way honey holes..... 4wd is a must

thanks guys. i actually prefer a tacoma, but i couldn't find one with an 8' bed which i probably need for my 12' jon.

I would go with the Tacoma as well.

My partner Darren has a Tacoma. It's awesome. I think you'd be able to haul a 12'. It'd stick out but just strap it down good.

I agree, as long as its strapped good, some overhang wont be an issue.

sold on the tacoma, thanks again.

a 6' bed with the tailgate down = about 7'. 12' boat leaves a good 5' hanging off. I'd have to check the law but i think anything over 4' requires a nice orange flag. no big deal. i also thought about a truck bed extender as well to be extra safe. so i'd be more like this guy

instead of this guy haha

I got my bed extender on amazon for around 90 bucks if I remember correctly. Free shipping

I use it to get it on my racks. I'm with you man. I'm looking to upgrade to something like Kevin and Neil. I have the trailer hitch already. I was reluctant to get a trailer because of my driveway but I'm convinced I can make it work.
