i could be wrong here, its been a while but i read in a bassmaster magazine that bass do not feel pain since their brain is very small and does not have the capacity for nerve endings or something, when you hook them they cant swim the way they want to (since your reeling them in and they dont know this) they take it as something is wrong and are trying to flee.

i know little to none about fishing deep and handling fish deep but if you had said needle in your boat and knew you would be fishing deep why not find it and place it somewhere that you can access when you need it, prior to getting on the water? kinda silly to have one for that one and only purpose but not care to find it?

theres no doubt in my mind that you know what your doing willy, i think you just fudged up alittle.

Chevin, I believe you are correct about the bass brain not having the right parts to feel pain. I've definitely read that too.

I dont think Im jealous of Willys fishing accomplishments. Just want him to handle fish better, thats all. Not sure I know anyone thats fished more cold, deep water bass, than my self in these parts. Ive caught thousands, litterally. If your gonna post a video showing floaters, your asking for trouble! These fish are vulnerable when they school, as they can be caught by the boatloads! If you want to drop them in the live well, put a needle in it and drop it in, it will deflate itself and be fine in 5-10 minutes. When u relaese them, drop them headfirst , give them a running start towards equilibrium! We can all argue about our rights to 5 fish, blah, blah, blah. Bottom line is take care of the fish, have fun, be safe.

At what depth would I have to worry about fizzing? I recently caught a largemouth in 40 ft (my deepest fish ever) and didn't have any problems. I did release the fish right after a pic. Is it something that happens right away or does it happen over time in the livewell?

I think it's more a matter of how fast you bring 'em up - time and temp seem to be key. I've brought 'em up slow in warm temp no prob, cold temp requires more time.

i agree. i've caught them in 40'+ drop shotting (light line, long battle) and haven't had a problem.

hey, I understand what you were saying. I understand using a needle. I have given my effort on the lake. I did feel bad when I clean them up in my kitchen. I don't eat these fish but my family member don't mind eating them. I love them as much as everyone else on this board. Most likely I won't even try to keep them in livewell next time. What else you want me to say, what else you want me to do, do I have to bend over to the rest of world for couple dead smallies? Come on...

Dick's Sporting Goods sells a couple of rubber nets for under $30. This one has served me well for the past year-

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=22397586&locale=en_US&clickid=prod_cs&recid=Product_PageElement_product_rr_2_37

They have another rubber net for $20 so you can't argue that it is a cost issue. It's as much as you would spend for gas and a coffee for one day of fishing.

Sure, I released fish from a nylon net years ago, but these are just safer for the fish and for minimal investment everyone can have one. Isn't it worth it to go with the safer route for the fish? I also drove cars without air bags for a long, long time but I would rather have them if given the choice.

I have nothing against harvesting a fish for eating, but there is no reason not to treat every fish with respect and give those you release the best possible chance for survival. I respect them enough to do that, and I regret how I've treated some of them in the past.

I can't believe all the bull s*** comments about how he handled his fish to me he did what he though was right.

You can't tell me that none of you have throw back a dead fish and if you say you haven't you are more of a bull shiter than some of these comments, Think of what you have done to a pickerel or two they serve a purpose too.

Raise your hand if you know how to fizz a fish for real.

I thought this was a friendly site?? Well it used to be anyway.
Anybody on the pro circuit???

Oh ya Happy Thanksgiving.

The fizzing tool posted by tommy is the real deal..i catch many deep fish during tournies and have used the tool to release pressure on them and thus release them back to be caught again. Tool includes instructions very cheap also!

this site is becoming painful to read and follow. keep your criticism to yourselves and start working with one another.

Not to spike the the ball, but i think there's a little overreaction here. I think willy made it clear he knows what he was doing in the beginning. Sure he had some floaters, don't mean he cant handle fish. We all make mistakes fishing and this wasn't intentionally done IMO

Out of alot of people to care about bass weather largemouth or small this doesn't bother me one bit!.. I see alot worst stuff happen by other people!!!
