I bought my first baitcaster last Spring and went with LH retrieve. Glad I did as years fishing with spin rods made RH feel just plain awkward. Interesting point- I was talking to one of the guys at Bass Pro shop the other day and this subject came up; he mentioned they sell a lot of LH baitcast rigs up here in the Northeast, and hardly any down South. What that means I'm not sure- maybe we're willing to try something different; or they're too stubborn to change?
