Caught a pickerel this week that was blue. All skin pigment and fins were blue, the body coloration looked normal. Couldn't find any info on it if this is a common mutation for pickerel, but it was definitely something out of the orderly.

I wish I took some better pics but it inhaled the bait.

Holy crap!! That thing is crazy looking! Never seen one before, but probably some sort of mutation.

thelucky - that pikerel is called blue pikerel.. I have caught once of northern Pike in NY... even blue yellow perch too. So bizzare and super cool sametime! Anyway, congrats on catch!

On the west coast this is due to an algae the fish eat. Green ling are the most common afflicted. If it is the same stuff then the flesh turns back to white when you cook it.
