Hey all,

Well I'm back with more on the beautiful Wachusett res or otherwise know as the Chu apparently. Been doing tons of scouting and I can say I got blisters on my feet from all the hiking. Funny thing is I'm pretty sure I've prolly only explored 10% if that. As for the main body this is where I have concentrated most of my efforts. Now I'm not going to go and divulge anyone's secret spots or anything but I will say if you know your fish it's pretty easy to determine where on the lake you want to be.

ow I'm sure all kinds of factor go along here for example the Trout I caught what...last week I have yet to get even another bite from that spot. Cept round a bend a ways to the east is a cove I seem to get a constant 1 fish from every time. Wouldn't be surprise if it where the same fish just being stupid the next day again.

Today was another story..not that they where biting like lions or anything it was actually pretty slow. I got in to the water around 5:45 or so and started on a spoon. Didn't get much so I did the walk and fish tactic to cover as much ground as I could. My starting point was gate 30 and that as much as I can say the rest you will either need to join me or go learn it cause honestly I did get turned around 2-3 times in the DCR roads.

I moved around the bank walking and fishing and near the end of my first stretch I got the first hit of the day about 2 hours in. he was tucked in a wide cove with some nearly still-water even with all the wind today. That being done I headed back to the car to get a new start and headed to the intersection of 110 and 140 by the bridge and re-stared my hike. ( note again got turned around in the DCR roads. why don't they name them.) About 1/12 hours in to walking and fishing and climbing multiple rock banks I came to a spot inside an island where it was being pummeled by the wind.

This is where the fun began. Thinking oh well I'll try here a little while in the wind and if nothing I'll take off. First Cast BANG! Sallie nailed it hard and it was on. She was an awesome fight saw her jump out near the beginning of the hookup and she was prolly 30yrds out.(on a huge spoon I can launch to mars) I saw a nice double hooked Treble in her mouth and new she was mine.

As I'm bringing her in I notice I was coming at rocks I could not reach down to Lip her from so I had to maneuver her down a way's to a perfect spot. (4.4lbs.) measured at 20 inches.

This wasn't the last of it I proceeded to catch another shortly after at 2.2lbs. sorry no pic. This I think is going to be a future destination indeed I can imagine what they will be like here mid summer. The spot is just a Ritz for SM.

That was pretty much the end of the hit as a few cast later I snagged in the rocks. That being the only thing I could get to the spot that seemed to be holding them I was sad to find that nothing else seemed to attract them.

Anywho I also learned that Lakers can be caught all summer long here OMG so happy that takes a little of the stress off to catch one now while still in may with the cold water. Just need to know where they are. Very Happy

4-4 is a slob of a smallmouth! Congrats! Must have been a killer fight.

Keep up the good work at the Chu!

That's an awesome smallie!

Keep going back there for the next few weeks. Once summer sets in proper, the big girls head out deeper. This is the time to nail them =)

Thanks guys,

Yeh she was a hell of a fight I didn't know what I had on till she launched out the first time.

I will be going back! most likely all summer. That's the great thing about the place if you go to the right area you get sick depth's within casting range.

I'm Most likely going to setup a surf caster for the place in mid summer to ensure Laker catches. Very Happy ( I've been told they can be caught all summer in the right places.)

The spot I was at to get these two has a drop off about 100-150 yards away that hits something like 70-80 FOW. That's why I'm doing all my scouting now before they go deep.

Good stuff. I'm always surprised when a Massachusetts body of water drops off that quickly, given all the 5 foot weed bowls we have around these parts =) I think I need to diversify!

Uhg, I just realized I missed my first Pin Opportunity by 4oz. Well at least now I know what the weight is. Very Happy

I gave up on the pin thing when I realized they don't have a catch and release category any more. No way I am killing a trophy fish for that =)

Well I am a big catch and release fisherman as well but I wouldn't just do it for the pin...There would be some eating involved.

I'm under the strong impression that 4lb Sallies aren't all that rare here in the res. I have been told by at least 90% of the people I have run into that SM are supper abundant and from what i see the food sources they have must blow them up like balloons.(that's my hope anyways.)

I haven't caught to cook much in the last ten years or so did a lot of brook trout and smelt back in my younger day's.(early teens in Canada) But once you see the water and how clean it is I can barley help myself now. The creel for SM is 5 per day but I would never take more then what I could eat in one sitting. Unless a bad week might be coming then I'll toss one in the freezer. Very Happy

pins are overrated anyway. Remember for every size fish that wins a pin, there are hundreds that release the same size fish. Pin fish are not as rare as they seem if you go by the amount issued.

pins are useless! thats just my thought on that. i have caught huge fish! take a pic, and remember the fight, and go catch something bigger.
