Gate 31 has been a destination 6 years running. While I have caught my share of decent fish (a few Larry's just under 5LBs), it's the fish I can SEE there that actually keep me coming back. Large Mouth's well over 10LB's and Smallie's that I am certain would have tipped the scales over 6+.
My problem is I CAN'T CATCH 'EM!
So here's to another hopeful journey down Route 2, a stop in a Daniel Shay's Package Store to stock up with eats for the day, and 10 hours of the most hopeful fishing I have each year.
Quabbin stories are always welcome, and I'm willing to share spots if anyone is interested.

i've been there a few times and had a good amount of success. there are fish everywhere in that place. i've seen those 10 pounders but the problem is the water's so clear they get spooked and get out of dodge. i'll post some good info. on here from my experiences when i have some more time. i may head out there again this year once.
Friday is the day, and I completely agree with getting overwhelmed. We are hopeful that our timing is right, and we will find some Smallie beds the size of man hole covers with fish almost as big keeping them clean.
If that bite doesn't work, it will be deep water for largemouth which can make for a very long day.

I've seen a few reports from there recently, and earlier this week the water temp was in the upper 40s. Not too surprising considering there was still ice there earlier this month. I don't think they'll be moving up to spawn just yet.

We should head out there together some time this year. The boats are suitable for a couple of people I hope?
The boats are a good size, high sided row boats with motors. I fished there once with a buddy and we had plenty of room...probably could have fished 3 comfortably with gear and food/drinks.
The place is overwhelming, but I had a great time catching nothing much in my trip. It's just a beautiful spot and I hope to get back sometime.

What a frustrating and humbling day. Nearly 9 hours without even the slightest glimpse of a fish or line twitch, and a defective engine on our rental to boot. Avoid motor S12 (Boat 216) if anyone is heading there to rent.
Water temp was indeed still too cold, and we tried 1 - 60 feet of water. Rattle traps, jerk baits, tubes, senko's, crank baits... All ineffective.
Knowing the areas I was able to mark on the portable GPS, I am using this trip as a scouting trip for where they will be in the coming months. I may even plan a second day trip in the next coming weeks as the water temp becomes more ideal for some action.

Sound like a tuff day on the water. I was out Friday morning for 3 hours & got the same results. 
I was @ horn pond in woburn, same as u not a sign of a single fish. Didn't seen anyone catch anything. Would love to try Quabbin too this year. I'll have to pick your brain on good spots to try.
