Falls Pond consists of two impoundments totaling 122 acres connected by a culvert under Reservoir Street. The ponds are located in the Attleboro Falls section of North Attleboro and were originally constructed to supply mill power for clothing manufacturers and other industries. The two ponds are also known as Upper Falls Pond and Lower Falls Pond but data in our files are contradictory about which pond is Upper and which is Lower! The northern section also known as Coral Lake is a 62 acre impoundment of the Ten Mile River. This basin has an average depth of ten feet and a maximum depth of 30 feet, but is drawn down about 5 feet during the winter months. The entire shoreline is heavily developed with houses. It has a transparency of three feet. The southern section, also known as Reservoir Pond, is 60 acres and has an average depth of 10 feet and a maximum depth of 20 feet. It is supplied with water by swampy areas and an unnamed brook. Transparency is around six feet. Most of the shoreline of both ponds are heavily developed. The bottom of both ponds is predominantly mud with rock outcroppings. There are several small islands in the northern basin. Falls Pond (Southern Basin) can be reached by taking Exit 5 off Route 95 South, heading west on Toner Boulevard to Commonwealth Street, then south on Mount Hope Street. The ramp to Falls Pond (Southern Basin) is at the end of Metters Street, which is the second right after Reservoir Street (which divides the two basins) when heading south on Mount Hope Street. There is a small parking area and a concrete pad ramp (Rudolph Berthold Boat Landing, provided by the North Attleboro Conservation Commission) suitable for canoes and cartop boats. There is also shorefishing available on the western side of the pond from conservation land at the end of Wildacres Road. On Falls Pond (Northern Basin) there is a Public Access Board ramp in the Joseph F. Zaino Memorial Conservation and Recreation Area at the end of Barbara Road. It is easily reached by taking Jefferson Street off Route 1 South. There is a five horsepower motor limit in effect on both sections. Falls Pond (southern basin) is stocked in the spring and fall with catchable brook and rainbow trout, and the presence of these fish accounts for much of the angler interest in the pond. Panfishing should also be fairly good, although the fish are not of large average size. Bass fishing is rated fair to poor.
