This pond can be accessed by hiking in from the skating rink/visitor center in Saugus or by taking a longer hike from the vocational school in Wakefield.
The shoreline is heavily forested so you have to pick your way around or maybe find a rock to stand on, although much of the eastern part of the lake is shallow and can be waded.
The water is very clear with very little in the way of structure, although there are patches of lily pads here and there.
Juvenile largemouth are fairly easy to catch here, which means there's probably big ones. The name of the game here are BOUS -- Bluegills Of Unusual Size. There are certain spots where there are quite large bluegills, in excess of half a pound. The first time I hooked one I thought I had a smallmouth; the strike was vicious and very loud, and he have me a pretty good fight on my #5 fly rod; I was amazed when I saw what he was. Even the ordinary sized bluegills in this pond are unusually game.
I've heard fisherman's tales of bluegills topping 1 pound here -- make of that what you will.
