Three Wall Fish In One Outing!!!
Today I had plans to go out with Jon, Brian and Dave Burrows on a secret pond close to my house. I had only fished Boone this ice season so I was pumped when we decided to try a different pond close by. I had hopes of catching a boat load of bass with the occasional fish being a few pounds. or better
We got to the pond around 8:00am and the edges had crap for ice....we had to get crafty to get out far enough to be on the solid 8-10 inches of ice. The burrows bros have a sick ice tent that we set up and after another 20 minutes we had set around 12 traps up. The action was slow for the first hour and we were considering a major shift when I got out of the tent and saw our first flag. When I got there almost half the spool was peeled off and I began the first retrieve of the day. During the reel in process I saw a lay down trap go off and yelled flag! As I was fighting a big fish in Jon was working on the other and within 2 mintues of eachother we had 2 fish throught the ice and over 8 pounds of bass caught! What a way to start the day.
The action slowed down again until we caught a couple two pounders. More time passed and although it was a slow day it was a quality day of bass. I was shooting the s*** with Dave Burrows when we saw a flag around 50 feet away fling up. By the time we got there the line was spooled and he had a nice battle ahead of him. After around 60 feet of braid he pulls through another Ice Pig ...the biggest Ice Bass of his life. What an awesome way to end the day! We only caught 6 Bass and had probably a total of 10 flags but it was well worth the commitment! Thanks for a great day guys!
8 plus is tough to do. The Wall of Fame in my basement (captains room) contains pictures of Bass over 4 pounds, most are between 5-6 pounds. I don't think I'd ever stuff a bass unless it died after the release for whatever reason.
Nice fish guys but definately not wall worthy.8 plus to be wall worthy.
way to get after them!!
sounds like an awesome day boys!!
