Deadliest Catch!!!
My buddy Jon and I got out for a couple hours on Boone for some mid-week angling. We fished about half the time and shot-the-s*** the other half as we hadn't caught up in a while. We were both a couple small bass deep before he caught a bass around 2 1/2-3lbs on a rubber worm- a nice evening treat! Approximately 10 minutes later and I switched from the frog to a rubber worm and after a slow retrieve, a big fish (which I thought was a bass at first) was on the end of the line. The line moved to the left at a steady clip and two times during the reel in process the fish got hung up in lilly pads. As it got to about 10 feet from the boat I saw the water boil and then over 5 feet of line got ripped from the drag. I reeled in a few more turns and the same thing happened....I still thought it was a bass as there was no visual siting made at this point. It wasn't until about five feet from the boat and we realized it was a MONSTER pickerel! Jonny managed to get the beast in the net...I think it was the heaviest Pickerel I've ever caught but didn't have my scale to officially weigh it. It was between 26-27 inches long and my guess weighed in the 5 pound range!
We worked our way back home and I caught a couple more bass on the frog and worm. Overall a solid trip on the pond!
