This beautiful little 25-acre mountain pond is located within the Savoy State Forest. Maximum depth is 10 feet; average depth is 7 feet. Transparency extends to the bottom throughout the pond. Aquatic vegetation is scarce and the bottom is composed primarily of clay with some sandy areas. Thanks to the surrounding state forest, the shoreline of this pond 100% accessible. There is no boat launching facility, but anglers who can stand a short portage will have no problem launching a canoe. The only competition for the lake comes from swimmers who utilize the adjacent campground. Fish Populations: pumpkinseed and brown bullhead.
Unfortunately this is a highly acidic pond in a watershed that has little natural buffering capacity. Survival is very difficult for fish under these conditions. The two hardy species of panfish are persisting, but their density is very low due to the acidity, which results in poor growth rates and limited productivity.
