Prospect Hill Pond is a 42 acre shallow warmwater pond with an average depth of about four feet and a maximum depth of seven feet. Transparency is low at four feet. It is connected to Pine Swamp Brook. The pond bottom is generally soft silts and aquatic vegetation is common. The pond has 1.2 miles of shoreline which are bordered by a trailer park and a swampy area on the south side, by an old railroad right-of-way on the west and gravel pits on the north. Access: Prospect Hill Pond is located about two miles north of Taunton Center and just west of Route 138. To get there from Route 495- Exit 9, take Bay Road south past Lake Sabbatia, then take a left onto Waverly Road. Access is a dirt road (City of Taunton right-of-way) at the end of Waverly Road. There is an unimproved access suitable for launching cartop boats and canoes. Fish Populations: Bluegill appeared to be the dominant fish species in the pond followed by largemouth bass, yellow perch, chain pickerel, golden shiner, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, white perch, American eel and black crappie. Largemouth bass were the dominant gamefish with some large individuals present in the population.
This shallow pond is fairly fertile and angler reports and the most recent survey data indicate that Prospect Hill Pond continues to offer good fishing action for largemouth bass, chain pickerel and panfish (primarily bluegill). The abundance of aquatic vegetation may make boating and fishing during the summer months a little difficult.
