Night Time October Pig
Napa called me today at work and notified me of the numerous October Slobs that were posted on MAFF over the last weekend. I couldn't wait to get home to take a look at the most recents lunkers shared on the site!! Roger, Mark and Chuck stole the show, Absolute beasts and a true Monster! This motivated me to spend a few hours on foot doing some night time angling after I got back from work. Since the water level has dropped over 3ft at Maspy it makes it difficult to get out there in a boat, especially at night so I decided to put on some boots and angle the shore line. I caught numerous bass on the jitterbug and one on a popper. In between I was throwing the frog out there and got a couple serious splashes/misses throughout the trip.
I got back near my house and continued to use the frog. A while went by and I tossed it about 30 ft off shore towards a couple rocks that were exposed from the water. I hopped it back slowly and in roughly 1 foot of water, 15 ft from the shore I felt and heard a monster strike. I stayed still for a couple seconds and then reeled in with a pull up high and felt a strong fish on the end. Since it was close to the shore it was an abrupt fight with splashes that signified a good fish and most of the stress hit while I was pulling it in the last 10 ft in only a few inches of water. I got my hands on the beauty and knew immediately that it was a catch to be proud of. She was just about 20 inches and weighed 5 pounds 2 ounces. The gut was impressive and made for a great/unexpected catch. The hope is high that the Fall Frenzy has hit and more big bass should be landed soon. Thanks for the Fall PIG!
Nice catch ! And, a shore bound angler ! Way to go ! Night fishing definitely needs adjusting to ... so many things I take for granted when fishing during the day require a different approach in the dark. Landing it must have given you a few tense moments !
great job ...
Season isn't over yet ... !
