Went to Pratt Pond in Upton, MA August 2009. Sign posted stating "Pond Use For Residents ONLY".
Pratt Pond is a small eutrophic, warm water pond located in Upton and draining into the Blackstone River. Depth averages six feet with a maximum of 16 feet. The bottom is about three-fourths muck with the remainder evenly divided between rubble and sand. Riprap ispresent along the northeast shore. Aquatic weeds are abundant along much of the shore and shallow covers. Recreational activities include swimming, boating and fishing. Boat access is good and shore access is rated as excellent. Fish Populations: Eleven species were collected including largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed and brown bullheads.
This pond offers good fishing for an assortment of warm water species. The bass population is healthy with fish ranging from legal size to over 20 inches. Bluegills and pumpkinseeds exhibited above average growth rates with many fish approaching 8 inches. Ice fishing for chain pickerel and yellow perch should be productive. Don't pass up summer fishing for bullheads and black crappie. In addition to the warm water species available, trout are stocked during the spring. Some trout carry over and are regularly taken during the fall and winter.
