Hinkleys Pond, also known as Pleasant Lake, is a 171 acre natural kettlehole pond, with an average depth of 12 feet and a maximum depth of 28 feet. Transparency is poor to fair, extending to roughly 6 feet. The bottom is composed of sand, gravel and some rubble and there is scattered aquatic vegetation. The pond is fed by groundwater and connections to Seymour Pond, Long Pond and cranberry bogs and drains into the Herring River. The 1.7 miles of shoreline are developed with residential homes, cranberry bogs and a beach. Hinkleys Pond is located in the northern section of Harwich, a half mile north of the center; a half mile northwest of the Route 6 / Route 124 interchange. It can be reached by taking Exit 10 from Route 6 and heading north on Route 124. The Harwich town beach is located just west of Route 124. Access to the pond is from a dirt road on the western side of pond, south of a cranberry bog. The access is suitable for launching cartop boats or canoes. There is six horsepower limit on outboard motors. Foot access is also available from a small parking lot next to the Cape Cod Rail Trail across the road from the general store. Fish Populations: largemouth bass, alewife, white perch, yellow perch, tessellated darter, smallmouth bass, bridled shiner, white sucker, banded killifish, pumpkinseed sunfish, brown bullhead, chain pickerel and American eel. This pond supports an alewife run that comes up the Herring River from Nantucket Sound to the Herring River Reservoir and to Hinkleys, Seymour and Long Ponds.
