I'm thinking about hitting the Wachusett Res this weekend or next and I was hoping for some intel on access points. If I wanted to go and fish for 3-4 hours, which gate should I enter that will give me the best chances of action? I've never been there before and I know it is shore line fishing only, I just don't want my day there to feel like I'm on a 60 person off shore boat fighting for a position in casting.

Thanks in advance on your feedback.

all depends on the wind...
How far u want to walk? 5 mins or 35 mins

It is very slow recently. Water level is way up suppose good for bank fishing. I don't know...been there hundred times never able to cracked up the pattern there. The most "reliable" pattern is fish in the wind, against wind. The strong the wind, the big the wave, the better the fishing. Basically, you want to go fishing there when not many people want go fishing. Nice day usually spell poor fishing there. All gates have fish. There is no secret that gate 35, gate 8 rocky shoreline hosts smallmouth bass. If, only if they are closing with in 50 yards from the shore, then you are able to catch them.

Thanks for the replies. I was planning on heading up there on Saturday in the wind/rain for a few hours to check it out so I appreciate the insight. I guess all I'm really looking for now is which gate has the access point and the availability of parking my truck.

Thanks for breaking down what you know about the Wachusett Res Willy.

You want to fish where the wind is blowing at the shore. That's my Chu tip

Understood about the wind. With these "gates" are they obvious from the surrounding roads around Wachusett res? Do they look like mile markers or something? Do you just park on the side of the main roads or ae there designated areas?

Designated areas mostly on Rt 70 and Rt 110 sides, but theres other spots were you can pull to the sides of the road and park, like on the Rt 140. Just make sure at a legal gate, and dont block it! Two other things that you'll want to take cautions on when fishing here, ticks and poison ivy are everywere.

Good call on the ticks. I totally forgot about them. I find a tick on me almost every time I go there

And don't step in the water big no no!The gates have numbers painted on them. Most have small parking lots near or around them.

Spring and fall generally the best time to fish the Chu once the water heats up they head deep but can be had sometimes early in the morn.
