Squam Lake:
Fish came up between 50-58 feet, in the mouth of the deepest part of the cove. I was trying blade bait but it fouled hook too much. I witnessed drop shot works too but I prefer jigging in that depth. I wasted half day looking for them in 10-30 feet based on water temp was 50-52F. I thought they shouldn't be that deep. Well, lesson learned.

Thanks everyone. On this lake this time of the year, smallie are relate to bait fish. There was a guy on Ranger 250HP parked 50 feet away from me using drop shot quickly caught few smallies. He taught me something about reading sonar. My sonar is old black and white. I thought the bottom tiny sticks were weeds, actually they are bait fish. As I looked carefully, some spots were 2 feet thick of bait fish. I normally would think bait fish is like a ball in the water but they can be glue down on the bottom as well. I caught 8 bass lost 3. It was not a very productive day but it was an excellent learning day. Worth the time and effort!

Funny you say that. 8 fish to some may be a super day. I would love to meet up with someone to learn from! I find myself sometimes stuck in a rut while fishing and am sometimes hesitant to try new techiques and just as you say, waist the day looking for fish. I propose some get togethers where we can learn from each other. We all watch each others posts so, lets do some meetings on or off the water. Personally, I think on the water and changing partners (easy Shawn) would be pretty cool

I've changed partners many times over the past two seasons and my fishing skills have improved from it for sure. Last year I spent a lot of time with Kevin and this year Sam and I have put in a ton of time. You just have to reach out and set up a date.
