Trying to make up a list of the freshwater fish that can be caught in MA.

Would like to make a check list and see if me and my buddy can catch them all. Ive looked up MA fish and seen a few that I have never heard of anyone catching around here so I figure you guys would be the best bet. If you want to help to with some of the rarer fish let us know a good place to go and look for them .

Fun challenge. Fish and game should have a list. There will be a good amount of travel involved in order to complete the list. Probably your most difficult catch will be a Musky. Also be careful some fish are illegal to target like herring.

I met a guy in NH at a local tackleshop in Merideth and he was attempting the same quest for fish species in NH lakes/ponds. He showed me some photo's from his trips and was over half way there. I think it's a very cool challenge. Do you have a list of the types of fish in MA?

Ya know I thought about it after it was in my stomach!
The walleye I just caught a ct river was good enough for a state pin!
I always want to submit a fish for this and had the chance and didn't even think.

Also: watch what you put in your mouth. It could come back to bite you

the back straps off the Pike are yummmie, surprised you didnt like the Walleye J, maybe just from the CT river they blah. The ones we caught in Canada were delicious Great fish you caught

Thanks for all of the help. Yes the wildlife site has a list of fish, the only thing is I have never heard of anyone catching some of them around here. I am from Eastern Mass so for starters that limits the list. Took some trips out west and had minor luck at the quabbin. then one day hit a bunch of ponds on the way home that we so along our travel.

Got a few trout down in plymouth the other day to cross them off the list.

Any suggestions for places to try now that the cold weather set in?

Again I appreciate the responses. trying to get back into the fishing game

You can get panfish like perch, blugils and pumpkinseed just about anyplace. they should be deeper now and off the banks. If you want slab Crappie try Oldham or South Watuppa in the spring. For pike the best bet is Wequaquet on the cape. Quinsigamond has Musky and so does South watuppa
