So I got a new tackle box last season and it held a ton of stuff, but it was just way too big and cumbersome for our pelican cartopper. It barely fit under my seat and I had to just about play twister to get lures out/ put back. My cousin and I utilize every inch of real estate on that bad boy and space is limited. I want to downsize, but still like to have a good sized assortment of lures available at all times. I see a lot of you guys using tackle bags or tackle binder type bags and I wanted to know some recommendations or suggestions you all may have. I may end up with a trusty ole tackle box, but am keeping my options open still. Thanks for any input!

I use tackle bags. I have 2 of them that hold 4 or 5 plano boxes. I only took one at a time on my bass hunter for the same lack of space issues. The good thing is you can take the boxes that you think you'll need for the lake you'll be on. I have a separate binder bag for plastics (it's the bass pro double sided worm binder) It holds a ton of plastics and is small.

I have my own boat, but do a lot of tournaments with a buddy. We often take his boat, more reliable and newer. When we go I use a tackle bag, with plano boxes in it for hooks, sinkers and hard baits. I also have a few smaller bags that I keep a bunch of plastics in. But I leave them in their respective zip loc baggies. I am in a different situation because if I need something he has it in his boat, just like I have enough for two in my boat. It's a bit tougher when you're alone in a small boat and have to make sure you have all your stuffffff. I don't know how the yakers do it. Maybe we could make a tackle trailer to be towed around behind the yak.....What do you think.....possible.....I know someones wheels are turnin.....could you name it after me ? Shocked

Sounds good, now all we need is a prototype. How about a tube with a net streached over it

i'm not a huge BPS brand guy but they hit a home run on ertain things including the bag i got. i can fit a bunch of waters and a jacket in the top pouch and it attaches or detaches to the tackle portion at the bottom. it easily fits 4 plano cases.

i can fit everything in there - water, glasses, jacket etc. in the top, assorted stuff in the front flap like reel magic, bug spray, and sun screen, spools of line in the bottom side pouch, assorted tools in the other, then 4 plano cases of tackle, and packs of hooks etc. in the front zipper. can't beat that for $30 IMO.

I use a military 3 day assault pack ( atleast when shore fishing) it is comfortable for all day wear and has plenty of room for 5 medium sized plano boxes ( hooks, weights, ect) and one large plano ( usually either my jig box or crankbait box) and it has lots of zippered compartments to keep my scale and the roughly 10 different go to soft plastics I always have on me as well as the outside is covered in molle webbing which if u don't know what that is its basically a grid or 1" nylon straps sewn to the bag to atrach additional military style molle pouches. I have a couple molle multi tool pouches that I keep pliers and a folding knife in as well as an external hard sunglass pouch, ect.. its served me well from shore when having all the essentials on your person is a must but it dosent hold "everything" so ill probably end up with a few big husky electricians bags full of s*** once I start getting out in the boat.

I have used this bag for 4 years now. Its faded by the sun but not a rip in it and all zippers still going strong. I probably just jinxed myself.

I can put 4-5 plano boxes in it depending on thier thickness. The front pouch holds my bagged soft plastics and the 3 end pouches hold things like a scale. my C-rig leader keeper, fish attractant, a roll of electrical tape, a screw driver and an adjustable wrench. The 2 smaller pockets hold a pair of scissors and a pair of needle nose pliers.

That backpack that Sam pointed out would be my GO TO if i were a shore angler for sure.

The bottom line is how much stuff do you really need Question I fish out of a yak and take a small tackle bag with me. It is way more than I need. I find myself using the same 3 or 4 baits every time I go out Exclamation The only time I really find myself reaching into the bag is when I am fishing plastics and the bait gets torn off or I break off. We all carry way too much more than we will actually use.

There's no such thing as ...TOO MUCH STUFFFFF...It's an addiction like shoes to a woman.

Is it safe to assume the tackle bags are not waterproof and do any of you find your stuff gets wet, especially when fishing in the rain? Thanks again for everyone's input.

it's water resistant. not bad but i don't keep it out in a down pour. things get damp in mine but it does a decent job keeping most water out.

Worst case bring a trash bag and have the bag in there. Always works for me. I've fished in rain that got in my boxes and had hooks rust.
