I had one, I forget the model number, cost around $60. The concept was great, everything worked fine for the first 5 casts. I palm the reel in my left hand, near the level wind area. When I set the hook , it's usually straight up. What that does sometimes is put torque on the side plate of the reel. The US Reel does not have a button or a catch on the sideplate. To open up the side, you just put your palm on the side plate and turn counter clockwise. The plate comes off and the spool falls out into your hand. EXCEPT when your fishing like I do, the side plate loosens but doesn't come off all the way. The next cast, the side plate falls into the water and the spool shoots out of the reel. That also falls into the water and you end up with 1/2 a reel, a spool, but no line. I got mine from the ABA, American Bass Anglers. They sent me a new one- it happened again. In my defense, I only had the first reel for 5 casts. It took me 10 casts on the second reel to figure out what was happening, by then the side plate and spool were in the water again!!!!!!!
