Guidance Please

My old motorguide servo positioning trolling motor is on it's last leg. It' sall electric and yesterday it had some itermittent problems. Called motorguide and of course, they dont make parts or service it anymore. I am thinking on going new but could use some guidance. what is a good model to buy? What is smooth to steer? 12 volt, 50 lbs of thrust, long shaft, is what I have..yea I said shaft.

Thanks Neil, Its a bow mount. You are right as far as going thru any veggeis, it sucks. Already looking to the Minn Kota. Anyone else?

Go with the minn kota. I had motor guides on my previous 2 boats and I didnt have any issues, but the TM sucked in the weeds. My MK goes through weeds like a champ.

Neil, I've seen the vegitation you travel thru....hell you'll need my 175hp to cut thru that, never mind the trolling motor!

I know you have you are usually the only other guy that is nuts enough to fish the same stuff

I have had both brands and prefer Minn Kota over motorguide. The less expensive Minn Kota is the Edge. The next one up is the Maxxum. I own both. The difference in the 2 motors is the gradual power up feature the Maxxum offers that the Edge does not. If you have the edge and you have it on 4 or 5 and you hit the power, it is instantly on at that speed and can jerk you right out of the boat in a topper. The maxxum has a slight delay in that the power builds relativly slower ( 1-2 seconds) and doesnt have the "kick" of the edge. It is a smoother start. The maxxum also has the Digital Maximizer feature which helps your batteries to last 2-3 times as long as motors without it. The Maxxum also comes with a "breakaway" mount. if you run into something at a good clip. the mount will " break away" then be able to be snapped back into place insted of bending or breaking. The edge has a numbered power system. i.e. 1,2 3,4 and 5. The maxxium is a variable speed. No numbers just a dial to power up and down. It is more accurate and allows better speed options.The prices for 50lbs thrust is $500 for the edge and $800 for the Maxxum. If I were buying a new motor I would buy the Maxxum

Nice to see you guys having fun. SO, about the trolling motor. Thank you for the guidance. I belive my electronic pedal got wet and wouldnt work correctly. I t is working in the driveway so i am gonna try to get the rest of the season out of it. I am looking at the MK. Who knows, maybe a deal will pop up on craigs list or a sale somewhere. Thanks again! You all never fail to dissapoint with information or humor.
