recycling plastics

Hi Guys,
I am thinking of recycling my plastics.
I have been wanting to pour my own senkos, creature baits ect.
I was thinking about the cost of senkos and how good they are. So basically what i was thinking is I'm going to save all my soft plastics (senkos especially)and melt them down and re-pour. I'm just thinking about this,But if i melt all one color and reuse i don't need to have the ingredients and i might end up with a senko again?

I couldn't decide if I wanted to try to make plaster molds or just buy them. I really didn't want to pay for the molds so I kind of got stuck at the point. I have like 3 ziplock bags full of various plastics in case I get motivated to do it this year

Sort your plastics by color unless you want to fish with a tutti futti colored worm

Oh and one last thing….Don't cook 'em in the kitchen unless you want your house to smell like… bass minus the b.

I got a beginner type package mold now for trial purposes but i want the aluminum ones this winter.
Seems like a cool winter project.
I also think I've heard about a company that is taking soft-plastics back for recycling?

How would you remelt the used plastics? Is it a similar way?

Not having done this yet. I'm thinking just heat to the melting temp and pour.

Microwave oven 1-3 minutes depending on the strength of the oven.

Scented plastics will make the oven and the house stink.

what about non-scented plastics? do they smell at all or just...like plastic?

and about how long does it take for a lure to cool after you pour it into the mold?

will putting it in the fridge mess up the process or speed up cooling time?

In reviewing the info above I do want to point out one safety issue...if your recycled plastics contain metallic glitter there is a potential fire hazard risk in melting them down using a microwave oven. Baits containing glitter should instead get melted down in a Lee Soft Plastic Melting Pot.

For the time and effort you have to put in to create the resin mold the aluminum mold seems like it will create a more consistant product if you want to cast multi-lure pours.

i looked into that a while ago and the alu molds seem to be the best bet - for the recycling:

i am not sure in how far you can re melt them - plastic changes the molecular structure on hardening and the bonds it forms can be rarely be broken apart again - i worked summer jobs in a plastic injection mold co and the rest of the batch needed to be shipped of again and could not be grinded up and be reused - but not sure how that works here with a different type of plastics much more soft

but hey - give it a try and let me know - but when i do the huste of injection mold - nothing else makes sense in my eyes for the bait
i think i'd rather mix a new batch instead of wasting my time wit used plastic
