I've been searchimg for what I consider my unicorn ever since I caught my first smallie at my favorite lake. A 3-4lb smallie. Kept saying to myself this place has to have some big smallies. Houses huge Larrys is big n has great forage.for over 3yrs I have looked in vain. Plenty of 2s some close to 3. Today I finally found them. Caught 2 small ones right away. Then hooked into a monster.started coming straight at me I said to myself strange that is smallie behavior. Started peeling drag as it got close to shore hmm no jumps. Got it within 5 ft saw its dorsal fin n olive green color wow looks like a smallie then cough cough up comes hook. Damn heart broken take a breather then fish on. Bam! First cast another giant no doubt what this is as it rockets out of the water and into the air another giant smallie.what a fight as it jumps 3 more times. Almost have it close enough to lip when 1 last jump n spits the hook grrr! Lost both of them. Don't know if it was the storms or the spot but the fish were on. Boom thunder then massive lightning bolt and had to cut day short. I crimp my barbs so save a fish lose a fish I guess but wouldn't change a thing. At least I got to fight the fish n now know they r in there!

Kind of a bipolar day. Happy n sad at same time. Was happy my theory was proved correct. Even other anglers I had met said they had never caught any big smallies there.Weird 50yds over almost exclusively Larrys. Decided to try a new spot that was less weedy more of a rock n mud bottom with decent depth. All I caught was smallies 2 small ones n then lost 2 big ones. Glad I hooked the other 1 so I knew it wasn't a fluke.

The smallies LOVE those rocky bottoms! I'm looking for the same thing. I caught about a 2 lb'er last week, my biggest yet! I know it pales in comparison to others biggest smallies, but it is what it is!

I had a big smallie spit a jig at me last Sunday. So insulting.

I was with Smoke two weeks ago and he lost a MONSTER smallie near the boat, easily pushing 4. slow rolling a spinner bait in like 16 feet of water
