Just got my first canoe last week, and it's been great for fishing. I was thinking of taking off a few hours early today to go fish solo, but it seems pretty windy (steady 15-20mph) out there right now. What sort of wind would you guys just say no to?

Wind and a canoe are not a good combination Exclamation I fish out of a kayak and when I see whitecaps it is time to head in.

Wind is the devil in a canoe, Even a lite breeze will blow you around. I wanted nothing more than to fish today, but not with this wind.

I was on my buddy's canoe the other day in some pretty harsh wind. It was really hard to maneuver the canoe unless we got behind a bank or an obstruction that blocked most of the wind. Casting is a challenge too. After the wind died down the fish were biting like crazy. Caught 5 bass after the wind was gone.

We were out in that wind all day yesterday. The fish didn't seem to mind the wind at all, in fact the bass and pickerel were biting like crazy. I highly recommend a good anchor and fish directly into the winds face or with it at your back you you should be fine even with 20 mph winds.

What type/size of anchor would you recommend? When out in my buddies canoe he ties a rope to the nearest cabbage sized rock.

A five pound mushroom anchor seems to work well enough in most situations. In the canoe you also have multiple tie off options, so that you can drop anchor and have the wind blow you right where you wanna be. Although tying off to trees and rocks can actually be quite effective. On brutally windy days in my kayak I'll just bury myself deep in the brush or vegetation and fish like a shore fisherman.

I use an 8lb barbell weight and it holds my 14 footer under most cases. the heavier the canoe the better. Mine is 106lbs and is the most stable cartopper I have ever used.
